Not always. Malda, Murshidabad Ms have accents that sound similar. Also, some Bangla words and phrases are used by Ms exclusively (on both sides of the international border) - for instance, a Bangla speaking M will always say 'pani' irrespective of his/her citizenship while a Bangla speaking Indian H will use the word 'jal'.

It is even more difficult to distinguish between an Assamese miyas and a kanglu because the miyas are bangladeshis who settled <= 3 generations back.

At best, you can tell the Ms and the Hs apart.

Assamese muslims speak assamese among themselves, celebrates non-religious assamese festivals, and ancient muslims live among hindu/tribal populations.

Non-assamese muslims/ bangladeshi settlers speaks bengali/sylheti among themselves and speak a very accented assamese.

These trips can cost from Tk 5 to 8 lakh, with migrants funding the journey through loans, land sales, or support from relatives abroad.

This in itself is a huge inhibitor to traveling so far off in a land where income & sources of income are dropping by the day.
