Never had enough to pay any attention to them compared to all the different variants of AKs.

Me too asked the very same question a million times in both DFI and DFB.
Many answers; Vzs are very less in number so if you upgrade Aks for both Para and RR it is more economical as you just have to buy kits for only one type.Vzs were issued for SFs so the number of rounds fired through it might be many times through an Ak issued to RR so barrel life of Ak may be long.
More over the Aks were all made around 1993 and vzs were all surplus ones made before 84.
More over the effectiveness of Vzs over Aks are non significant.Both are comparable ones.
Only Fab makes Vz upgrade kits in large volumes the Ak upgrade market it comparatively high .

We did received a request from a PARA unit for to study the feasibility of modification of VZ58 but as @Alby pointed out, being this old and being used so much the metal wear and tear makes them non usable. So you would have to provide new receivers, and some spare parts support to the VZs if you want it to be modified.
