Small Arms and Weapons

Aren't under folding stocks the most unstable ones?
underfolding stock on the AK was taken directly from german MP-40, as Mikhail Kalashnikov was a fan of that design, he just made it underfolding one from overfolding on MP-40; and those pattern AKs were mostly meant for paratroopers, tank-IFV etc vehicle crews and combatants etc rest regular infantry was supposed to go with fixed stock AKs
but since we imported the heck out of AKs during 90s post USSR fall world where they were willing to sell their surplus and all, we just inducted whatever was available for cheap and ended up with plethora of these underfolder AKs
prior to that if you'd check pics of AKs in SF service here, they got hungarian underfolding AKs for paratroopers which seems a fine placement

Actually the underfolders you mentioned from Ussr was issued to Capfs and later police only.Army went with East German Mpi72s and later Romanian side folders.Except few captured Type 56s or very rare Russian ones army don’t have underfolders.
