I don't believe this. Our handicapped athletes are better than the regular ones. Guess we're sending the wrong team to the Olympics.

Ok, guys you can stop hoping for a Gold Medal in javelin in the next Olympics. Our champ has just discovered better rewards than an Olympic Gold in Javelin throwing.

Too much focus was going to Neeraj IMO, it's not the player alone but the sports infra machine that churns out player after player.
We should at least have 2 athletes as backup that is given the same training as primary ones.
It's a nation of 1.5 billion and finding a physical profile similar to that of even better should be possible. We have to start early since Neeraj was found when his father pushed him into Gymnaisum.
Tbh we spent a lot on him because there is no proper TOT for churning out champions locally. Two great coach and German Bio Mechanist is what it took to get the gold.

Chopra also had an elite Australian coach (Garry Calvert) when he was still a teenager and benefitted from it. Makarov has been appointed to replicate that.

Also, one weird thing about javelin throwers is that they tend to be very inconsistent (Chopra is a notable exception) because it is a physically draining sport and causes frequent injuries. The great Johannes Vetter is ending his career without an Olympic medal. Germany had three 90+ m throwers back in 2019 but returned empty handed from Tokyo and Paris (all three of them suffered career threatening injuries). So having one or two back-ups won't always suffice.

Jena is technically very sound. More than makes up for his relatively short stature. He is also entirely taught by Indian coaches.

What you are suggesting is already being done tho. The Fed ran a series of workshops to train Indian javelin coaches under the supervision of Klauz, Uwe Hohn and Calvert, among others and that shows up in the results (the reason why we have so many talents in javelin and para javelin). Compared to the absolute nincompoops who manage track disciplines (where Indian timings are among the worst in the world - especially in the shorter distances) these Indian coaches are actually very good.

It is kind of a paradox tbh. We are supposed to be good at track given our population. But it is the more technically challenging and resource guzzling field events (javelin, long jump, triple jump, shot put etc) where Indian marks are actually world class.

I am totally okay with this fact but having a higher standard for domestic javelin competition may have additionally benefit of churning out a dozen more Neeraj Chopra.

It is always difficult to predict things in sports but Michael Mussulmam (a Peruvian coach involved with Indian throwers) expects him to get close to or surpass 90 m soon.

Dont have too high hopes from Indian coaches. A bulk of them are the atheletes who wins silver or Bronze in some Asian games or Commenwealth Games and then get into system via quota and spend their whole life there securing a fat pension.
They don't really have sound technical knowledge about the games. They were taught by their coaches who again were the same in their times.

Coaching a separate ecosystem - it requires studies, research, nutrition, etc. Need lot of funding of its own.​

I always stress this point: Identify the desired traits for any sports and then scout for talent who match these traits.
There can always be athletes who don't fit the desired requirement but that is exception not the rule.​

He has always been very technically sound - but a series of contentious split decisions have haunted his amateur career. Hopefully, his professional experience would help him bag the medals in amateurs too (pro boxing experience transformed Jalolov et al). With the corrupt Putin backed IBA gone and World Boxing taking over it is about time the smaller boxing nations get the results they have always deserved.

our ace anshul jubli , got knocked out pretty bad in pre rounds. he has lost ufc pre 2nd time. everyone had pretty high hopes from him , let see what will we do in future. looking at some UFC indian players ,we are still in very early ages of UFC .

Agreed, our local league mfn(owned by tiger shrof's family) had a fight night couple of weeks back and there were like 8 finishes out of 15 fights, still a long way to go though. I hope anshul comes back with a bang , subcontinent mullas and goras need to get their mouths shut up

You see the issue here is that the top guys from here just are not gonna turn up for the UFC - these guys dream of an Olympic gold, not UFC titles. Are ya'll aware of the kind of talents our freestyle and women's wrestling programmes have been producing in recent years? Even in Greco-Roman, a discipline we have traditionally lagged way behind, we have started winning medals at u20/u23 level!

But this 'oversupply' of elite wrestlers might push some into MMA in the not so distant future, who knows! Just look at 57 kg FS, we have Aman, Ravi, Chirag, Udit and Ankush - all 5 are capable of bagging a medal at LA 2028 but we can send only one. It would make perfect sense if some of them move to MMA.

Do not think too much about the mullas and the goroid neckbeards - give it a few more years, our medal tally at seniors would do all the talking.

The day cauliflower eared olympic level haryanvi wrestlers transition to mma, we will get serious talent and prospects look at what cejudo and cormier achieved in the ufc. The pahadis are doing a good job too but we need a neeraj chopra moment for Indian combat sports. If india does well in mma , it will bring in a lot of money and audience.
