All that you wrote works as long as there's internal cohesion & a national consensus. The latter may be hidden from the public eye & unspoken like the need to get out of Afghanistan for instance which enjoyed bipartisan support.

But the crux of my point is this internal competition is no longer within manageable levels . If you're arguing about a BLM then I doubt there was anything on that scale in Bush's presidency. However the general trend was a kind of anti Republicanism we normally see from left liberals with the usual topics we're used to seeing today , the features of which you've listed , minus the amplification on SM - a feature absent then .

IIRC gay marriage was just about rearing its head up then . Here's a clip on the subject from a televised debate when Obummer was running to be senator against Alan Keyes. Initially Obummer wasn't a supporter of gay marriage but later "changed his views."
