Where in my post did I say anything about OFB, if you knew my history of posts, you would know that I always hated OFB and despise dpsu, the point here I am making is #aatmanirbharta should mean designed & developed (be it copy paste or stolen Design, doesn't matter) in Bharath including all components without any reliance on foriegn supply chain (or minimal reliance) by either pvt or psu, preferably pvt. What is instead happening is simply put import of foriegn maal via the backhanded route of which is being touted as #aatmanirbharta which it's not .

If this technology would have been given to solar industries by ofb they would have had came up with much better deal than saab. They're products are already quite affordable.

I trust you as an ex services guy know what you're advocating. With the GoI in the midst of MII fever instead of IDDM followed by MII , we're seeing the initial green shoots as financial & economic affairs reporters put it of F-OEMs coming in with or without a JV to establish shop here , participate in local tenders apart from exporting & outbid local companies including DPSUs .

First it was SAAB , then it's Airbus with H-125 itself an antiquated product competing with LUH for both the defence & civilan markets whereas neither HAL not the GoI seems interested in the larger implications of this move. Doesn't that create dependencies ? What happens tomorrow if these companies are instructed by their governments back home to go slow on production w.r.t orders from our armed forces or to withhold vital tech without which the entire production line halts given that these so called JVs are essentially only Screwdrivergiri which everybody & his dog knows but nobody wants to do anything about ?

We need the DPSUs to be modernized / upgraded followed by conferring them autonomy then privatising them , if need be to sell them off & shut down those which can't be reformed . In other words total reforms of the DPSU along with the DPP due this calendar year . Instead with the kind of moves we're seeing it seems certain GoI is preparing to throw out the baby with the bathwater. This holds true for the most low level OFB as it does for an organisation the size of HAL.

What a terrible waste of national resources ?!

Right now with the kind of euphoria surrounding MII , GoI isn't paying any attention to the DPSU ecosystem . They firmly believe that JVs between the Pvt Sector & F-OEMs or 100% F-OEMs stake & the Pvt Sector in stand alone mode are the answer to all their problems as far as production of defence equipment goes.

And a much more cleaner look too. Just wish we made our own turrets too. All these years were wasted assembling soviet armor never learning to build our own. I hope they are doing so atleast now. The more I look at how our entire industrial complex has been setup, both military and civilian, the more I curse the congress rule that never seemed to have any desire to industrialize the nation. They were stuck in Gandhi's cottage industry jhumla that worked pre independence to break the britshit control in some way.

Sss defense plans to biuld anti drone RCWS/CIWS(at least the gun part, Targeting and software most likely by partnering with another company, or selling their gun to drdo which is working on anti drone ciws) for zorawar and probably future NGMBT/FRCV.

OFB Babus will faint themselves seeing this finish level. Also the tank will have skirts to protect the sides, I hope.

Meanwhile HVF babus can't able to deliver the Arjun MK1A successfully which is going for 5+ years for an puny 114 pieces. Looks like babus there come and tight some nuts and call it a day.

No wonder Air chief is lambasting HAL folks along with other agencies which is ADA who is playing guess the year.

In next few years, DRDO will start working more with Private Players as Production partners similar to ATAGS which resulted in 2 variants.

1. Whap will be 2 variants from TATA and Mahindra
2. Light Tank from L&T. Even BF is working on their own platform
3. Vikram Vt21 started with BF, L&T is also working on their own iteration with ARDE.
4. Guns like ASMI, Ugram, CQB is moved to private companies for manufacturing.
5. Whatever TCL produces we have Armasen, SMPP, TASL solution.
6. Artillery production already started with few private companies.
7. Small Arms ammunition is being done by Private companies.
8. FMBT will also have an Private partner.
9. Upcoming Fighter plane integrator.


Basically in last few years lot of Private companies replaced the OFB. May be an decade OFB may fall due to irrelevance/obsolesce and government slowly closes the shop or further streamline them.
