Here in India 90-100 people would have died in the stampede.

After a couple of bomb blasts at Modi's rally in Patna (2014), the crowd stayed relatively calm. No stampede-like situation happened. However, people have died in stampedes at the same venue on multiple occasions.

Stampedes usually happen when there exist natural and unnatural barriers (choke-points) severely limiting/restricting the crowd's movement.

Also, the crowds in the US are rather small from an Indian frame of reference.
