I strongly believe India will go for 36-40 F 35A fighters in the interim given that Trump had offered the same in 2018. Post 20th January 2024, Trump will again offer the F 35A but will seek heavy concessions such as a Stryker deal.

NGAD might be a single engine design based on the XA100 (200 KN) with numbers ~300 units with target price of ~$100-150 Million/aircraft.

Previous plans for a large twin engine NGAD with 2 x XA102 (156 KN) engines with numbers ~200 units has been effectively scrapped due to cost concerns ($300 Million/aircraft).

If we think of a the Su 57 is a LO anti-stealth aircraft due to it's side facing L Band AESA radars it makes more sense.

The SU 57 has the RCS of a clean F 18 Super Hornet so it's no where near as stealthy as per our requirements. Also it's in the IOC stage at best and with the Russia-Ukraine war, production facilities will be strained to meet demands.

According to Alex Hollings, a renowned figure in the field, the challenges initially faced by the Su-57 are similar to those experienced by any fighter jet, including the F-35 and F-22. “Even completed aircraft often struggle to make a strong initial impression,” Hollings notes.

However, unlike the Su-57, the F-22 and F-35 have taken lessons from their early days and continually evolved. As Hollings explains, “Online discussions about the Radar Cross Section [RCS] often stir debate, and one should approach them with caution. Expert analysis suggests that the RCS of the Su-57 is around 0.5 square meters, which, unfortunately, does not quite hit the mark. Interestingly, the non-stealth 4th generation F/A-18 Super Hornet also possesses a similar RCS when it’s unarmed. In contrast, the RCS of the F-22 Raptor is five times smaller than that of the Su-57,” Hollings elucidates.

Su 57 is actually turning out to be pretty advanced in its own right, though it still is the least stealthy 5th gen out there.
But still, it's stealth is still gonna be lot better than a clean super hornet.

IDK if Russia can or will. If GoI agrees for some Su-57 then perhaps DRDO might wanna test the Russian RAM 1st. If DRDO's RAM comes out better then it should bond well with Russian airframe with good life.
