Multiple UAVs are mobilized in search of terrorists movement, question is are we making use of the resources wisely. Deploying UCAVs for preemptive strike on terror launch pads closer to LOC shall keep infiltration in check and scale down the encounters , instead of mobilising UAVs after every ambush.

Hell! If that's the case, next time they should just allow sms voting to select the next army chief like they do in Indian idol! Relieve the Raksha mantri and CDS of that headache!

Cross-border fire won't do shit unless we attack the launchpads & state machinery like Balakot. Army is not handicapped from firing on the border if infiltration is observed. Terrorists are sneaking in from Jammu-Punjab sector, not Kashmir.

I was observing it. There is a complete lack of coordination between branches of armed forces. The UAV did some patrols over Rajouri, and was returning back. The ambush already happened and KIA news was already out (which means is must have been at least 2-3 hours since contact), then the UAV was re-directed from its landing path towards Doda in the last minute.

Why such a slow response ? Why wasn't the UAV supporting the combing ops in the first place ? If the UAV reached Doda when there was first contact, it probably would have tracked the escaping terrorists.

Do we have any thermobaric munitions in our inventory? Instead of going in on foot, trap them in an area and drop a couple of thermobaric bombs.
 
Our UAVs (probably Heron) is patrolling since last 12+ hours over Doda, probably found nothing. We need better EO/ISR payload, I wonder if MQ-9 will make a difference.

-> You need pinpoint intel for that
-> You need to verify those are not civilians you are bombing on your own territory.
-> If you have such an accurate intel you can send in troops to neutralize them in a better surgical way than risk the collateral and optics.

See, intel is like this -> 2 suspicious people with guns spotted over upper reaches of X village of Doda. Now police + Army team goes in to investigate (might or might not be true). Most of the times they find nothing (incorrect intel/terrorists escaped), but on few occasions contact takes place.

as a followup to your statement any UAV that doing patrolling at 10000 to 15000 feet altitude even with foliage penetration sensors wont make any difference in J&K topography, small UAV systems like DJI m300 type is well suited for this job, but again due to the fact OGW helping them and decentralized communication system used by terrorist always give them upperhand when comes to evading our forces, only solution to prevent this cycle more deeper human intelligence network, agency have to go out side the rule book get some OGW flip them with any means

I actually don't buy this. New generation EO payloads are sufficiently good to detect thermal signatures below dense foilage. SAR imaging is basically foilage penetration radars which can detect movement.

But no, MQ-9 won't be ordered, its corruption to give good capability to armed forces isn't it, strap a fucking mobile phone on Rustom and call it a UAV.

Criticizing Indian military leadership is absolutely fine. I'd say it's even desirable at this point.

Just be respectful towards the Jawans who put their lives on the line.

The chances of tracking and detecting a small group of terrorists is very slim considering the terrain and dense forest, unless supported by high-resolution thermal imagery satellites, and moreover flight data is open to public. Army top brass should think out of box solution rather than going by rule of the book. Rule of engagement need to be changed to stop this repeated shame

Army top brass just sitting and enjoying biscuits. Does they put cameras and sensors in jungle.

Bahut time tha but use nhi kiya.

Looks like govt taking revenge from public for not giving vote.

If you are going for an active ops, you should be shadowed by an UAV. If the terrorists come in the open to engage troops they will be picked up by the UAV.

An UAV can do everything and better than what a satellite can do. A satellite is basically a low-power high-floating UAV nothing else. Flight data is not public they can choose to not switch on the ADS-B.

Problem is like this - If you don't have good technology, rely on good HUMINT (e.g., Pakistan/Hamas), and if you don't have HUMINT, rely on technology (USA). Problem is in Jammu we neither have HUMINT and Army never believed in technology, always brawns over brains. According to them Josh wins wars not technology, so you see the young lads full of josh rushing to their deaths with Ak-47 like a poor warlords militia.

But there has to be some SOPs in place to vet the intel without sending our men into harms way. Like for example if it is trusted source that has provided the intel which has resulted in successful ops then you do A, B and C and if it is a new source you do X, Y, Z etc. And what is IFSU of MI doing, isn't it their job to gather intel.
If the SOPs are being followed with the same disastrous outcomes then the SOPs need to be changed.

And about bombing, we have previously bombed a city Aizawl and set a precedent. We surely can bomb a forest.
