Problem being European MIC is way too slow and lethargic that puts our MoDumbureaucracy to shame. Mind you Meteor first flew with French Navy Rafales some 20 years back, this year they tested it for the first time. Only in 2022 Saab Gripen fired Meteor for first time despite being a partner in the programme for very long time. Only this year it flew with an F-35B for first time. Only last year it got integrated with Italian and German fighter jets, and you know the rest. Hence we have no option but to somehow get our own fighter jets done, but then again that too is a circus.

Also, as of now, despite scamming us for billions for ISE upgrades, neither can Indian weapons be integrated with Rafale as of now, nor can we use the MBDA missiles which have come with Rafales with other aircrafts in India, even our own LCA, for which they will scam us again with time and money.

You have to consider IAF doctrine for that. MKI isn’t front line jet or interceptor in IAF inventory to get involved in a dog fight. MKi is used in ( A2G) role to bomb the shit out of enemies and tactics of IAF for MKI is to dodge any in coming missiles staying far from BVR missile ranges. Astra is agile missile integrated to MKI but not preferred or employable unless IAF tweaks tactics and pits MKI directly against enemy fighters in A2A role.
