DRDO and PSU's

More than a year back DMRL has initiated a project to extend the service life of AL-31FP.

TBO has already been increased to 1000 hrs from the 500 hrs mandated by OEM.

Similarly, DMRL study has led to an increase in TTL of AL-20D turboprops on our AN-32 to 8000 h.

License manufacture of AL-31FP here by HAL involved five stages. The fourth stage involved manufacturing almost all the modules and components besides forgings and then assembling them into the final engine. 5th stage involves making all the forgings and castings here in India from raw material stage and then assembling them into the engine. Even the Single Crystal SC turbine blades are forged here through investment casting . I have made elaborate posts on this and the entire manufacturing process in DFI.

Before licensed manufacture of AL-31FP from raw material stage, HAL Koraput has manufactured R-11F2 for MiG-21 FL, R-25B-300 for MiG-21 bis and R-29B-300 for MiG-27ML from raw material stage. DMRL had indigenised some of the exotic super alloys and Midhani used to series produce them.

Besides, some of the alloys for AL-31FP have been indigenised by DMRL and made by Midhani.

Please pay attention to this post @rockdog now that sexychineselady isn't here to spam this forum.

You were doing to the AL-31F Turbo Fan ( TF) since 2002 exactly what we began doing from ~ 2012. We could come up a with a whole family of TFs too just like your WS series of TFs except we know the Russian TFs too well to accept their short comings. Plus we always had a choice to seek a Transfer of Technology or a Joint Venture with a western country while you didn't.

Hence you did what you could. Copied & adapted the AL - 31 TF while we chose a different path

How exactly is Nagmk2 different from earlier version, like in terms of weight, range and seeker type. Yet to see any figures on that. I don't think there has been any tests of this Nagmk2 missile.
most probably lighter since 4 have to be carried with a 30 mil cannon

After all these years, has BEL still failed to develop a local NVD technology? Seems like they entirely rely on ToT for the intensifiers, and is still in talks with Photonis for next gen intensifier technology. BEL are the same jokers who scammed the army big time a decade ago. Their new factory for optronics is finally ready, 7 years after the foundation stone was laid.

BEL's definition of R&D is transfer of tech from France.

TBF NVD tech is closely guarded by the leaders (US/Brits) and rarely shared with anyone.

Yea, the US even has export restriction on 3rd gen NVG optics/intensifiers (defined by FOP > 1600). BEL knows this. They were begging Photonis for 3rd gen tech 10 years ago, and still seem to be begging for it. Why would such companies hand over their prized research? Have they even hired a single PHD grad to research on this? I think this is where you can really see the difference between cheeni and us. Other than manufacturing the chinese virus, Wuhan is also known for its world class optics research/manufacturing hub. The chinese govt set up an entire sub-city called optics valley starting from the early 1990s

There were multiple boosters for this. First was setting up universities and research labs. Look at the scale it has grown to today

Factories slowly started springing up, mainly producing optical stuff and then spreading out to all things optics and lasers, from biosensors to intensifiers and lenses and so on. I think the industrial output here is a few lakh crores with hundreds of factories and companies concentrating in optoelectronics. This is actually the level of focus you need to cultivate a strong industrial and research sector. Sometime people including me expect too much from local companies like BEL. Not even 1% of this network exists here and govt seems disinterested.
