The meandering consensus is that Trudeau has found in India a soft target for deception, obfuscation and diversion, with an added benefit of consolidating the pro-Khalistani vote bank

Bang on ! Everybody ought to read this article. I'd go one step ahead & lay this fiasco or at least the fallout of it TILL DATE at the feet of Modi & Jaishankar.
While the latter has gone about town scoring brownie points on India's neutrality in the Ukraine war as well as defending India's ties with Russia why couldn't he anticipate the west especially the US would do their utmost to get back at us either directly or as we've seen earlier thru proxies especially after the Nupur Sharma episode & thru Turdeau after he subjected us to what he did last fall.
On the contrary the spying episode in Qatar & the way we went about solving the issue may have well given Turdeau the belief we're a soft target which we are .
Let's also consider Leaderji's response . While Turdeau went to town last fall on the role of Indian agencies in the assassination of Nijjar how did our Leaderji respond ? IIRC he didn't even issue a statement in Parliament on the issue. Ideally he should have read out a charge sheet in parliament from the days of the Punjab insurgency in the 1980s & the bombing of the AI flight for which only 1 man was convicted that too decades later & he too was let off after serving 5 years.
In fact this very article contains a good deal of information which could have gone into that charge sheet thereby creating a narrative & what's more it would've been on the record . If the PM himself lacks either the appetite for a fight or a spine to call Turdeau a weasel why be surprised that Turdeau has struck back this fall even harder . He's already sized up Leaderji very well.
Talukdar seems to be indulging in a bit of obfuscation when he claims that India reacted before Canada in expelling their diplomats here . When the Canadians have publicly named our HC including senior diplomatic staff there as people of interest having asked us to waive diplomatic immunity , it's only a precursor to declaring them persona non grata. If we pre empted their move & are now claiming credit for it , it's no big deal. We normally react harshly only once our diplomatic staff are threatened . This is less a function of policy than of privilege .
Our true response is yet to come & in all probability will never come if Canada doesn't initiate for we only react that too proportionally . This is the sad unpalatable truth.
