Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

How many astra mk1 we have?? About 200 right..

Need to have more.. also press astra mk2 into service and production.. do user trial on paxtani junk fighters
Though numbers are skewed, I would say there are more than 500 Astra Mk1 BVR missiles on order/in service.
Just last year I guess an additional batch of some 200 missiles was approved for mass production.

Low Rate Initial Production for Astra Mk2 commenced last year.

Yeah i also had seen sometime back in X of some people quoting approx 400-500 astra being ordered or in process of order book..

I guess it was in BDL yearbook..

If we currently have astra mk2 in our inventory it can be a game changer with it's long range.. nd could potentially tip the favour on our side by spelling doom nd gloom on PAF air vectors

There is no news about Astra. Mk2 induction
At max 2 su30s will be able to fire mk2
As drdo always modifies two jets ....but how many Astra mk2 missile s are available.....a question

About 15 no went into production.. one thing we have to admit that with a rabid terrorist state paxtan on one side nd huge belligerent China on other side we can't continue to have laggards DPSUs babudom culture..

Forces fight with what they hv in hand and the results are skewed wrt to their capabilities not like continuously chanting atmanirbhar jargon years after years with nothing to show off when contingency arrives.

Wrt to current situation.. I'm now cent percent sure IAF will go for two squadrons of F35 as air chief rightly pointed out that we have to match capability of imminent PAF purchase of J36 off the shelf.. we can't continue to wait for AMCA while both are adversaries while be flying their respective 5th gen vectors.

CAPABILITY DELAYED IS CAPABILITY DENIED

Iaf chief ordered to deploy su30 armed with Astra , when astra just cleared initial trials...
In this logic Astra mk2 , ngarm
And gandiv armed su30s can be deployed...
Final call will be taken by iaf chief ....

It can be but it's the case of being inducted in sufficient quantity that is missing .. nd it's the quantity which will make the deciding factor..

Few pieces won't even cut one round of skirmish.

You will not get your gold-plated imports.
The Govt doesn't have the budget for it, because it isn't interested in preparing for some long term conflict

It is not the question of >"tejas not delivered" or a question of >"we can't wait for AMCA" but the Govt's chindigiri is the greatest obstacle to the Import Marshall's fantasies.

There is no budget for expensive imported toys, Atmarnirbhar stuff is pushed across the board because it is cheaper, not because everyone in the govt is possessed by the ghost of Parrikar and is now a turbo atmanirbharta enjoyer.

Lmao u can wish as u want but F 35 is coming..

Nd about budget?? Paki with their shoe string budget can operate 5th gen but we can't?? Really

We currently have 21 billion dollars of capex every year increasing at 8-9% per year ..in which IAF alone has 6 billion dollars of allocation..

But but .. we don't have budget 😹

IAF never going to buy an 5th Gen fighter from US, GOI will simply going to shut it off due to higher cost and corresponding Terms and conditions which the US may levy on IAF.

IAF at present is not in great shape and we should acknowledge it. It needs an long term support with 5 year review. For the first 5 years it can plan only few things.

1. Ensure it receives the Tejas MK1A as GE started to deliver albeit in a delayed fashion. Ensure it orders the second batch of 97 Jets. Based on that HAL can deliver an 16 Jets per year we end up 80 Jets in 5 years. (Min Production rate).

2. Try to lobby for second tranche of Rafale. Another G2G deal of 36 or whatever. By this we can increase the Rafale strength to 72.

3. Ensure the speedy process of SU-30 MKI upgrades. AESA, MAWS, RWR and integration. By 5 Years try to upgrade Half the fleet/Entire fleet.

4. Maintain the Mirage 2000 Fleet by replacing lost aircraft and purchase decommissioned ones for spares. We tried and due to high acquisition cost we chickened out. Also if possible replace the RDY Radar with Uttam Derivative.

5. Another Plane which can be useful if we tinkered around in Mig 29. The current Mig 29 is UPG variant with ZHUK M PESA Radar. Replace the ZHUK with Uttam AESA derivative.

6. Upgrade common encrypted communication between Rafale, SU-30, Tejas MK1A, Mig29, M2000.

At the end of 5 years we will have an small, but quality Frontline fighters. The above part is more about upgrading with less capital purchase (Extra Tejas, M2000 airframes).

Coming to Heli, Transport here some capital purchase needs to be done.

7. Replace all aging Chetaks with LUH.
8. Order additional Chinooks.
9. Increase the order of C-295 to replace the AN32E (Ukraine is screwed stop expecting spares).
10. Order extra C-130
12. Purchase Embraer EJ145 for Netra MK1 in commercial market.

From 7-12 GOI can do point 12, 7, 9 which gives some Transport and AWACS capability.

Also increase the armament base from India. Integrate Astra, Gaurav, SAAW, Low cost cruise missile into all front line aircrafts.

This can be done in next 5 years. But all of them were armchair expert dream. Take it with salt.

U are wrong IAF chief himself said we will have to buy 5th gen vectors to counter PAF purchase of J 36

"Air Chief Marshal Singh said: “We may have to go in for something which is maybe [an] off-the-shelf purchase, maybe something Make in India, while we are developing our own AMCA,” referring to India’s planned fifth-generation aircraft known as the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft."

Like it or not only option we have is F35 & it will be identical to Israeli F35 adir i.e non nato grade with israeli Bent secure data link.. trump & jd vance both have offered F35 to so it is inevitable.
