(Reuters) -Reliance Infrastructure (RELINFRA.NS) has partnered with France's Dassault Aviation (AM.PA) to make Falcon 2000 jets in India, the companies said on Wednesday, as the South Asian country aims to increase sourcing of locally-made defense equipment.

Dassault said it aims to deliver the first made-in-India jets by 2028 for corporate and military use, and will cater to rising demand in both Indian and international markets.

India, the world's biggest arms importer, has been looking to step up domestic production, with global firms pushed to produce in India - either on their own or in collaboration with domestic partners.

New Delhi also aims to boost defence exports, which jumped 12% in the fiscal year to end-March, to $2.76 billion.

Where modern air warfare is headed, I think for <= 4.5 generation the significance of the platform is becoming less.

To me, (SU30MKI with Virupaksha radar + Astra mk2 & mk3 + Indigenous EW) or (LCA mk2 with Uttam mk2 + Astra mk2 & mk3 + IEWS) >>> Rafale currently in Indian service with spectra + meteors.

Nothing is stopping it, Govt chindigiri also seems to have gone.

I too would have preferred the Su-30 Super Sukhoi upgraded for heavy jet, Tejas mk2/Gripen type plane as single engine light jet and AMCA to be our stealth jet.

After Rafale, there is not much in the way of any new big projects for Dassault. Yes, there is that 6th generation fighter project with Germany FCAS. But it will be a sinkhole for both the countries given how much money is needed for research and development. UK did the same mistake of going alone initially with their Tempest program only for them capitulate later and bring in Japan and Italy to share the costs. There is a possibility even Sweden might join as well later on.

Germany and France don't have much money to pour into military let alone on new fighter program. France had to increase their retirement age few months ago to try to avert a collapse of their pension system which led to riots. And Germany is grappling with problems of it's own after Ukraine war with rising energy costs. Even in the best case scenario it will cost them 50 billion Euros for R & D. Building manufacturing and assembly line will cost extra. Yes, Dassault is looking for long order book. If we play our cards right, we can get something here. I am really in favor of 3 more squadrons of Rafale with the condition they share their source code to integrate our own weapons.

+ they probably will have a contract to study a space shuttle (a Hermes shuttle NG).

When you see than F16 remains on production 47 years after 1st flight, we may imagine that a so well studied jet will remain on the market after 2040.

I am mainly talking about big fighter jet project. After Rafale it is FCAS, right? Rafale will be improved with future iterations with F5 like you said. But who will be it's future customers apart from the existing ones? F-16 is a different case. It came in 1970's during cold era. And US supplied to most NATO countries and also it's allies. However, can you say the same to F-15 which is a formidable fighter? The cost of Rafale means not many will be signing up like the F-16 even it is in production. Let's see who will be it's future customers.
