"Imports of inputs used for making toys is much higher than import of finished toys. For example, we imported glass eyes for dolls or other toys, beads and imitation stones of value $137.2 million in FY'2024," Srivastava said."

GTRI gives detailed insight into trade trends, good to have such analysis to catch screwdrivergiri and improve.

Probably true that some structural changes are essential before the Indian economy grows at 10 to 12%. The author forgets that all the structural changes suggested are possible with only constitutional amendments. Without full 2/3 majority these changes cannot be implemented. That is why BJP was shooting for 400+ in Parliament. That did not happen. Over confident Modi/Shah forgot that the opposition parties have abundance of political money and can mount a disinformation campaign, which they did in UP and Karnataka and the BJP lost heavily. They did not get the majority and are dependent on allies of which one ally from Bihar is most untrustworthy. He has changed sides twice before. Therefore BJP have to live with whatever Modi has got.

Looks like another statistical garbage that doesn't pass the smeII test.
It's percentage relative to consumption expenditure, not disposable income. For China its 30% of C.E. so it probably accurate .

Still seems too high for us, considering poor get plenty of grains for very cheap at ration shops. But looks like they don't spend much on other things unlike what govt might've expected them to.

The unilateral implementation of CBAM threatens to accentuate power imbalances, with industrialised nations having largely depleted the carbon budget with complete impunity, now exerting their influence over emerging economies with varying levels of development without the wherewithal or influence in the global order. This is especially poignant given that India has yet to reach its peak emissions before transitioning to a net-zero economy.

We should really go to implement colonial Reparations tax. Europeans utilized resources around the world and when they feel comfortable they go on to imposes imaginary taxes on countries that are on their way to industrialization.

I read our old fellow DFIan, Tarun Raju's tweets mostly criticizing various action o Govt.

Here also many invalid points -
CNG is not hard to maintain and last equally long as a Petrol/Diesel.
A bulk of three-wheeler intracity transport vehicles have moved to EV options particularly in NCR. Noida-Gr.Noida is now filled with EV version of these, and they are performing really well and saving good money for the owners.

Only correct point is vilifying of Diesels by Gadkari due to his personal involvement in Ethanol business. Diesel engines are high efficiency, and their efficiency increases with increase in size of engine rather than declining as in Petrol engines and Diesels last really long. With regular maintenance they can cross 250K KM in India easily in case of cars and goes beyond 10Lac KM in case of buses, trucks, etc.

SEBI chief is getting attacked from all sides all of a sudden. Worse is that the attacks are so juvenile. It's clear the aim is to scandalise her.

In the first half of this calendar year 2024 India's corn imports surged to 531,703 tons from just 4,981 tons a year earlier

value wise 5.5 lakh tonne at 220 $ would be about 1000 crores or 120 million $, not a biggie as such.
and for past few years, ethanol producers have been allowed to pick up rice stock from FCI as well.

this FCI sale news caught my eye few days back, initially i thought this is happening for the first time, but apparently it's been going on for a few years.

this played out in U.S in their ethanol supply chain, is beginning to play out here as well

Normalizing corn price impacts by the change in corn ethanol volume, we find that each billion gallon expansion in ethanol production yields a 2-3 percent increase in corn prices on average across studies.

Importing corn for producing government subsidised ethanol is a big red flag. Subsidy itself is a major market distortion. Add to that, one of the main goals of ethanol blending is to cut costs of importing fuel, thereby saving some $$$. Buying corn in $$$ negates even that goal.

Importing cheaper corn from open market for public consumption to deflate local corn prices is welcome, but importing for a government subsidised commodity? Big problem. Only a small select group of people are making money at the cost of others.
