Unfinished hulls are probably the cheapest thing among all other high-value stuffs on a ship. So thinking about making ships from those rotten hulls in 3rd pic would be like buying a horse after finding a saddle.

First you'll need a through inspection as they're sitting there for more than five years, then a repair, followed by procuring all the costly stuff like engine, gearbox, radar...only to get this

But you specifically said upgrading it, so let's look at that too. Upgrading it won't be as simple as we had done previously on bigger ships like Delhi or Brahmaputra where you just swap one weapon system with another. You'd need some Kiev - Vikramaditya level of modifications to add better radars, BrahMos and ADS. And in case you want just enough upgrades for using it as an OPV then again, 11 new OPVs are already on order.

But then again, all these for just two ships when it's always better to have atleast three according to the Rule of Thirds. In my opinion the cost Vs value won't be significant enough to justify dealing with these girls.

If these two were even big corvette hulls then also I'd have agreed to you wholeheartedly.

When I wrote I meant software upgrade on electronic, you don't need to upgrade weapons or anything in float category. It's a patrol vessel.

Who ever buys this defunt shipyard will try to sell it to Indian Navy or some other navy, let's see how the new shipbuilding policy comes out.

I would assume most of the stuff is already bought for those 2 ships.

These vessels could be acquired by intelligence agencies cheaply to create expeditionary vessels for black sites and SOF.

i also heard your refuelers max out at about 18knots so will type 055 speed up (thus requiring more refueling) or will refueler slow down (to max out 055 range) on the way to the naval blockade

The Talwars cant support MFSTAR - from both a weight and power requirement standpoint, and I doubt there's enough space for a substantive MRSAM VLS

There has been talk of integrating MFSTAR-RA on the Talwar class. Also, I think there seems to be enough deck space where the single arm launcher is present.

...7 years old Jane's article where everything is pretty much speculative. For example see that 128 VLS; that's not accurate. Renhais have 112 VLS in grids of 64 and 48.
This US Naval Institute report from 2020 estimates it to be 18kt.


But even if assume it to be 5000nm only if 12kt then also this won't be that big of an issue. This is the typical Carrier Strike Group of PLA-N, again it's not my wild guess but rather from Japanese Naval Intelligence report on what they've seen so far.

China really nailed it with the Type 055 class. She looks so beautiful and is jam packed with UVLS. She is even capable of launching AShBM aside from providing fleet wide area aur defence.

The other ship class which I have high hopes for is the Italian Navy DDX. That thing looks so good.

Vagsheer, the 6th & last Scorpene-class submarine, was ordered in 2005 & launched in April 2022. The guided missile Nilgiri-class frigate will be the first of 7 new stealth frigates.

Talwars are meant to be "budget frigates". These 2 new ones are 650 mil$ per ship. In comparison, Nilgiri class is 900 mil$ per ship.
