This collaboration follows a landmark agreement earlier in October 2024, when Larsen & Toubro (L&T) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CCTE to establish a world-class supply chain for ANEEL fuel, leveraging L&T’s advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Subject to government approval, NTPC and CCTE are set to explore the development and deployment of ANEEL fuel in India.

Will the ROI greatly exceed the capital & operational costs of this machine?
It's a replacement for gas burners . It cannot compete on cost without govt support. As with all nuclear projects initially there will be no ROI.

If you are thinking of investing L&T Godridge for the actual equipment makers. IIRC TATA steel is one of the initial interested parties for usage.

What is the use of a 5 MW nuclear reactor? What purpose is this envisioned for?

Singh said the conceptual design of the Indian Gas Cooled Reactor (IGCR) (5 MWth) was being carried out.
"The high-temperature reactor will be coupled with plant utilising thermo-chemical process for demonstration of hydrogen production for decarbonisation of transport sector and process industries," he said.
