Indian start-up produces indigenous checkout systems for ISRO, defence
Thiruvananthapuram, May 31 (UNI)
Tachlog Private Limited, a startup-turned-company based in Technopark, is all set to commercially produce and deliver its indigenously developed checkout systems to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Defence sector.
The product, branded as
DatoScoop, has been designed and developed entirely in-house as part of the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
“Tachlog plans to deliver the commercial version of DatoScoop to major clients, including ISRO in June," said Pratheesh V Nair, CEO of Tachlog.
Speaking at Technopark’s official vodcast, ‘Aspire: Stories of Innovation,’ Nair said checkout systems are critical components for Space and Defence sectors.
DatoScoop, one of Tachlog’s flagship products, is a highly capable data acquisition system, equipped with options for customisation.
It is currently in use by ISRO as a checkout system for testing their indigenously developed gyro sensors.
The checkout systems currently used by ISRO and the Defence sector are bulky, hard to handle and expensive—typically costing between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 1 crore. DatoScoop was envisioned as a compact, efficient and affordable handheld alternative to these systems.
“
We have already sold almost 20 units of them to ISRO. Since its demand is high, we are bringing out the upgraded DatoScoop commercially,” he said.
The company has upgraded the product by consistently investing in each stage of development.
DatoScoop records data from a Unit Under Test/Device Under Test, which follows a command response protocol. The device is capable of converting and saving the data in a human readable form. It is a standalone four-channel data capture system with isolated inputs and high-speed drivers.
It is integrated with a touch screen-based Graphical User Interface. The system is capable of selecting/accepting user inputs, and displaying the outputs and status.
The system is integrated with a replaceable external storage device having a capacity of 1TB. DatoScoop is currently available on GeM, the Government of India’s e-marketplace portal.
Noting that the company is ready to adopt new technologies, Nair said Tachlog is planning for bigger projects for Defence and Space sectors.
Nair said his journey with the company was a learning experience, propelled by the robust ecosystem in Technopark where they were able to make collaborations for scaling up their product.
Founded in 2013,
Tachlog had a key role in the development of the rugged COTS computer used in the Relocatable Robotic Arm Manipulator Technology Demonstrator (RRM_TD), a mission recently executed successfully by ISRO. In this turnkey project, Tachlog was responsible for circuit design and successfully delivered a flight-qualified control board.
Moreover, Tachlog contributed to the development of robotic arm controller of the ISRO’s half-humanoid robot ‘Vyommitra.’ Its responsibilities in this mission include flight board layout, flight card wiring, test code generation and the electrical bring-up of the system.
Tachlog’s R&D division is actively exploring new opportunities in Edge AI-based IoT solutions, with the team currently developing several intellectual property rights.
In recognition of Tachlog’s contributions to ISRO’s space missions, IISU (ISRO Inertial Systems Unit) honoured the firm at the IISU Industry Meet 2024.
Tachlog is fundamentally a design house specialising in embedded application development. The company manages end-to-end development of embedded systems, from concept through to completion.
In addition to the space sector, Tachlog is actively involved in other domains such as healthcare, agriculture and consumer electronics. Its dedicated R&D division is well-equipped to address complex industrial requirements, ensuring high performance and reliable solutions.
