Why didn't they upgrade their Vzs though, was a decent weapon I heard

Vzs were mainstay weapon from 1993-2007 which is a long period and the weapon production line was stopped in 1984 so mostly these are made in 80s or 70s.Barrel quality might be bad due to prolonged use .So it might be the reason not to upgrade it and chose comparatively newer Romanian Aks .

True, they missed only chance to upgrade a great weapon. In fact FAB DEFENSE came into limelight for their VZ MOD only.

My best guess is because Tavors had already replaced most VZs by late 2000s. Northern Command back in 2017 decided to upgrade around 500+ Romanian AKs with FAB & distributed among PARA SF, Frontline Infantry & RR Battalions. After initial success more orders were placed for FAB MODs by SF Battalions. So bringing back already phased out weapon with new upgrade didn't seem practical. 7 years ago SIG 716i & AK-203 deals were not even in the pipeline hence Romanian AKs kept getting upgraded in small numbers. By March 2020 new Flattop Tavors started to come in & the last hopes were gone.

IA still hasn't replaced all of it's VZ-58s though. Both Fixed & Side Folders are still in service.

These rifles still has some youthness left if it could be upgraded properly.Very cost effective and ergonomic one.

Finally they're not mounting Reflex Sights in front of TI sights, hated the same with NVSs like Mini Hunter/N-Seas/Minimon-L with Mepro MOR Pro. All the above mentioned sights already have a non-zero reticle, don't know why we still use the combo.

We have got new accessories with the new Tar-21FTs and X-95s, GL-40, M22, MX3T/F, MMX3/4, Sting LAM/Mepro LVPO and 4x sights along with Supps and Bi-Pods...

GTAR-21 INTEGRAL ordered in 2005 with T40 was love child of IWI & MKEK when things were cool between Israel & Turkey over Palestine. These FLATTOP GTARs with IWI GL40 are from new lot ordered in 2020 after they decided to convert Airborne to SF.

That camo is not new & recently featured in Ex Shakti as QZCT.


The camobaazi has resulted into 20+ camo patterns in different shades which are not officially issued. Also the camo pattern I posted above and in previous post comes in Green, Grey & Blue shades. SF Battalions have all of them. We need a separate thread for camobaazi.
