Indian Special Forces

Oh, nevertheless maybe I heard Maj Poonia talking about how there were two or more teams present on different locations so I thought they would have deployed a company.
Let me clarify two things that are in public domain but not clearly told!

1. 10SF is mandated to have one squad for CI/CT & Hostage rescue Ops in the valley, at all times.

2. Other SF units apart from the ones permanently stationed in J&K are also send squads on rotation for some specific tenure.

Apart from these two points, SF units very rarely operate in numbers more than 6-8.

Exactly, A company is sent on rotation.
They had some operations in 8 men teams I guess, from what I have seen in photos, plus also wasnt Capt Pawan a part of a small team in the Pampore EncounterView attachment 5097

Col Sangram might have been one of the few from 10 who lead amazing operations in the valley. In this article it's mentioned how he created his own group which included 1 officer and 2 sailors from MARCOs also. All the members of his team were Op Pawan vetrans. He was succesfull becuase he had guys who had seen worst in Sri Lanka. He was succesfull because as said by his coursmate "Had he gone crazy? Yes,he had ….if not ,he would have been a dead man."

Can a knowledgeable member please enlighten me on the military role of the SG (CT/LRRP/INTEL/Demolitions/etc)

HUMINT (HUMan INTellgence) Intel gathered through eyes and ears on the ground, both directly and through agents or through long term observation posts like Major Jacob's Deep Op story...
SIGINT (SIGnals INTelligence) monitoring and tracking radio communications

others:
  • Sabotage - example 'the planned Kahuta raid in 1999'
  • Personnel and material recovery - 'In the late 1980s, it rescued a political prisoner in Bangladesh after being ordered to do so by the Prime Minister of India'
  • Kidnapping - if you want to body snatch someone from elsewhere...SG it is that you send
  • Hostage rescue - Planned operation in Kandahar, Afghanistan
  • Counter terrorism - Op Bluestar, CT roles before NSG and SPG were created, CT ops in Kashmir (some, not their pirmary role). Still they have the Special Counter Terrorism Unit (SCTU)
  • Security measurements - Security at International summits in 1983 and protecting Rajiv Gandhi until SPG was formed

Not related to indian SF, but pakis have leveled up their clandestine op game pretty high lately.. they are suffering losses but adapting.. recent images of undercover SSG guys at encounter site :/ View attachment 5061
He is from zarrar unit.
Probably part of some recon operation before assault.

Thanks for sharing bud,

Yeah that ep was little disappointing I wouldn't fault major for it he just replied to their queries those guys just didn't have any idea on what to ask and how to ask they didn't have any background on Indian sf so they did what they could and once Major went a little spritual path in the podcast they all leaned into that section a little more than needed tbh so we need someone interisting to do a podcast with these dudes who has decent knowledge and can ask some meaningful questions instead of "did you see yeti whole doing ops in Himalayas"
