Indian Special Forces

just for getting the context, what's PNG
Now, the thing is, if prior to GWOT, SBS did not see much action as the SAS, infact many SBS guys would join units like 14 Int so that they can do some work. SBS taught Maritime counter terrorism to nearly everyone, read Duncan Falconer's First into Action to get an idea.
I agree they are quite a small force so in GWOT era they were hell of busy but SBS(R) was still doing alot of FIDs across.

One more thing about UKSF is, that being so broad their rotation cycle helps them alot, and this info you can get anywhere on a reliable source, I dont know the correct order but it's something like this

6 months - predeployment
6 months - deployment
6 months - counter-terrorism/special projects team/counter revolutionary warfare wing role
6 months - on contingency call/standby for world wide contingencies
Persona Non Grata...

I remember reading long back on DFI or Bharat Rakshak that when the advance force of American SOF (CIA SAD) landed up in Afghanistan a few days post 9/11, they were actually guided to the remainder of the Northern Alliance leaders by Indian SF who had been in touch with Massoud for some time, as part of the then Indian Government's efforts to aid the Northern Alliance in their fight against the Paki supported Taliban.

Is there any truth to that, and if yes, where can one read more about this?

Perhaps @rkhanna saab might be able to shed some light

Very much so - R&W/SG were part of the permanent liason from our side with Tiger Massoud and the NA. (Tiger's assasination IMO is a ball we dropped - BUT our pression was observer/advisor only).

When the balloon went up the CIA used RAW assets to establish contact with the NA to land incountry - Triple Nickle et al. Indians got out of dodge after helping the contact.

Later Indian intel (Humint) continued to pour into the Americans - which they ignored or didnt do jack with for whatever reasons. the most prominent was the Kunduz Airlift - with ISI conducted multiple large scale air evac of Taliban and AQ Leadership right under the Americans Noes. Musharaff was supposed allowed to do Humanitarian rescue flights to bring out Paki Citizens - brought out the Taliban and AQ instead. I hope that fucker is eating a dick whereever he lies.

Yahi hota hai when they bring in white label products from China. Not a single ounce of R&D.
Went through their whole catalogue of "tactical" offerings. Its as valuable as the amount of garbage on the banks of Yamuna in Delhi!

We started using bikes in Red corridor back in late 2000s …pity the Army has not really made an effort to study or induct bikes when we are one of the biggest producers of motor bikes.

Looks like PFM-1 Lepestok (Leaf Mine) anti personnel mines were scattered on the roads. Probably due to the Russians avoiding the use of MRAP/ APC due to the threat of IED/Mines/FPVs.

The mine is stored with a pin restraining a detonating plunger. Once the arming pin is removed, the plunger is slowly forced forward by a spring until it contacts the detonator, at which point it is armed.

Deformation of the soft plastic skin of the mine forces the arming plunger to strike the detonator, detonating the mine.

Countermeasures :

Detection and Identification of Remnant PFM-1 ‘Butterfly Mines’ with a UAV-Based Thermal-Imaging Protocol

The overarching question that this study attempted to address is whether it would be possible to replicate the success of our stationary DATI experiment in a dynamic trial with a UAV-mounted camera over an area similar in size to a ballistic PFM-1 minefield. Furthermore, we complicated the original set-up by introducing variable orientations to in-place PFM-1 mines to model a scenario where individual mines may be trapped between rocks upon descent or after subsequent remobilization driven by environmental forces. Our field trials results allow us to answer the central question of this study in an affirmative way. We show that careful flight planning and proper georeferencing allowed us to stabilize the acquired photogrammetry images and DATI and discern individual PFM-1 mine elements with a high degree of accuracy. In our trials we were consistently able to identify the 18 inert mines and their KSF-1 casing components with a 77.88% overall detection sensitivity, and a 100% detection rate of the metal components of the KSF-1 casing.

Theres nothing you can teach a arrogant man who thinks too highly of himself..

Theres everything you can teach a man who is humble and knows better exists.

Sadly even today the 20+ year gap between our SOF and the best of NATO still remains. the MAIN difference is that 20 years ago the Chinese and even the Russians were behind us. Now most militaries have lapped us - Eastern Europe, LATAM, SEA

our ego's only allow our world view to be Bangla, Pak, Lanka and Nepal - so we still the GOAT
