Nobody really knows. First, it was told that he was no longer working with the govt, then it was 'leaked' that Yadav was moved back to the CRPF and now they are saying he is 'arrested' (citing some unnamed amerimutt officials). Even the state dept has 'deleted' their article on the 'scheduled' visit of the Indian 'investigators' the quoted HT article mentioned.
This whole fiasco (the Pannun one - Nijjar is, anyway, gone) seems like a fixed match to me - there are no 'botch-ups' when the stakes are this high, not with uncle Sam, anyway. Do you recall the discussions from the old DFI where we discussed at length how the drip drip information leaks seemed fishy/manufactured/borderline retarded? The gormint probably intended to send a message to the burger boys - the 'assassination attempt' was probably meant to fail only, who knows! Nikhil Gupta is an expendable pawn with prior links to drug lords - him getting imprisoned should not bother the GoI one bit (media leaks claim that the guy was compensated very handsomely anyway) and they can keep playing the 'muh fringe/rogue element' card in public.
Their strategy with canucks, otoh, is more brazen - khalis kept getting eliminated even after Trudeau went public with his 'credible allegations'. Shows the power differential between the sole superpower and an irrelevant nobody....
There was this article on some Indian media portal (Steno Shishir on HT?) that claimed that the Australians and the Brits were more understanding of India's sensitivities (wrt Khali khopdis), the Americans were (mostly) indifferent/apathetic and the canucks were downright hostile in bilaterals. Make of it what you will.
