Indo US Relations

75 US Billion export and 45 US billion Import thats peanuts for USA..

If that were the case then trumpwa would not bother waging a tariff war in the first place.

Either way, exports worth US$ 70-80 billion (a number that is projected to grow manufold in the coming years) is pretty significant from our pov.

And most of these are textiles and petrochemicals one cant put much tariffs on these items GSP was taken away from India in first Trump term.

Except that they can, WTO is dysfunctional - he can do whatever the heck he wants. Sure, there will be reraliatory tariffs too but that still won't recover our 'lost export earnings'.
and service sector export will flourish .. It seems there are around 200 US fed govt institutions which are not critical and service no confidential data most likely these will be outsourced by private cos to India, Philippines.. its a good thing Trump can have few ego wins on goods sector and India can have massive pie in IT service sector

Not too sure about this hopium take either. If trumpwa gets pissed off (he gets pissed off all the time anyway) might as well go all the way.

An FTA (possibly limited in scope) can be a solution to this mess. They tried negotiating one last time around but eventually the Trump admin lost interest and got voted out subsequently. Only time will tell whether a patch-up is possible this time around.

Guys Let me tell you. Trump winning is good only if he has not been coopted. But to pour cold water on hopium - let me tell you - starlink and tesla deals shall happen I think.

@ezsasa Remember my my post on realpolitik's by China on getting agreement soon? China read it rightly before hand. China came and attacked when it knew Demos are goin to come in. Trump brought unpredictability with it last time. This time it has Elon Musk tagging along - China is going to bet big on Elon Musk - this is my next prediction. How much Trump gets influenced by Elon is yet to be seen. As we remember Trump does not hesitate to fire big supporters who tried to dominate or pester Trump much. Elon is shrewd guy - his way of winning Trump heart would be by negotiating deals.

30 billion USD goods deficit is not a big deal from USA, I am not saying that Trump admin is not going to push India to reduce tariffs that is going to happen but again other than US oil and defense equipment India doesnt have much scope in market for any US manufactured goods.

Ultimately its a net win for India, all three letter deep state dogs will be focused domestically, Modi admin will get much needed breathing space inside India, few odd trade deals where India is in disadvantage doesn’t matter to India in comparison to US deep state who was basically trying to fck up India.
What we are going to see in next 4 years is deep state focusing its resources mostly inside and much less stress on Modi.

For those who think that Trump will favor India:

Honestly "support from someone powerful in USA" is his current handler.
This video of trump is after paying donation to the campaign... nibber doesn't even have a photo side by side with trump like more esteemed andolanjeevis. It's kinda cope if you ask me but then again trump protects those that support him unconditionally.

aditya raj kaul is not good at reading both people and events. i am not into following people on SM these days, but for many years aditya used to go on tangential logics on multiple occasions.

A lot of people might be transferred within US bureaucracy this time. The way Trump was harassed has seldom happened in the history of US.

"Just for fun"

Maybe pannun is col rawjneesh, we sent dossiers pe dossiers, just to be ignored, now the agent has ensured that the issue has reached criticality, Trudeau can't brush it under the carpet.

The problem has come to fore and has become the sole point of India Canada relationship (everything else is just routine business).

Elund will be given an important position in the Trump administration, perhaps not at cabinet level, but definitely some position with a lot of influence. Trump has already promised him that for all the help he has given. There will be very heavy lobbying for Starlink and Tesla in India, only this time coming directly from the US govt.

Can we jam access to Suarlink somehow from ground level or do we need a lot of anti-satellite missiles?

there was panel discussion yesterday by cfr on Indian economy, i suppose they didn't do a background check on ridham desai of morgan stanley before inviting him. he ended up painting an upbeat picture on indian economy contrary to washington consensus on India, including about economic upliftment of muslim minority.

now that video is nowhere to be found. let's see if they will put it back, else it is foul play.

looks like they did delete the video, not a trace of video or the invite/schedule.

name of the video was.
"the state of india's economy and the way forward".

ridham desai, alyssa ayres were two of the participants. not able to recall the names of the other two.

keep in mind, washington consensus are very guardy of any information that gets circulated within washington DC, they seem to keep a tight control on every sentence written and spoken. no wonder folks in washington think tank circles get so many things wrong about India. not so different from our lutyens durbaris, both have ideological glass ceilings in place.

few things that came out in that discussion, which i suspect goes against washington consensus:

- european companies like ABB, MERCEDEZ etc who stayed back in India established themselves by diluting their stakes under pressure from george fernandez during janata dal rule , as opposed to murican companies who packed up and left.
- data says economic condition of muslim minorities improved a lot in last 20 years because of the low base, and their TFR is falling.
- muslims got used to freebies for past 70 years, which worked against their economic upliftment.

may not be the case, if so we would have seen evidence by now. they were doing the same even when print media was not in financial crisis, in past decades. in my view, western gaze explains their behaviour better than sales targets.
Agree, but it leaves the question why some non Western countries receive the gaze, while others don't at all, or not anywhere near as often. Why India and not Indonesia, or Congo or Philippines, Nigeria, Thailand et al. The answer is probably that the larger, more independent minded, more historically oppositional and more actually or potentially competitive with Western interests, while also having a large diaspora who can speak and understand English, then the certainty that the gaze will be more intense.

indonesia was dutch colony,
congo was french colony,
phillipines was spanish colony,
thailand was never colonised.
nigeria was by brits.

more than two centuries of colonial literature written by brits justifying colonisation, forms the basis for western gaze on India in anglosphere?

No if starlink sats start broadcasting, all one needs is 100 USD receivers and in future elon is planning for direct to phone thats a satellite phone with high speed internet.

Its pretty dangerous for India as the network cant be tapped through Indian servers.
