There are approved plans for 220KM of route already in Mumbai. New proposals could expand it over 300KM. Beyond that it would need to extend extensively into all neighboring cities.

Ya'll Mumbai Metro Line 3 Effect the Daily Ridership on Line 7 and Line 2 has seen Hugh jump in just a month. The total ridership of three lines could be now more than 11 lakh +.

Haldi do you know if there are any plans to connect that Kharghar-Belapur metro to proper Mumbai?
I checked wiki and they are expanding it but to Kalamboli/Khamothe and the new Airport instead

when this was happening, not many pointed it out that the metro rail in "developing" countries was an idea that was promoted by US backed multilateral banks like world bank as a solution to tackle climate change and urban transit, this is why in DPRs of metro rail there will be atleast one section on co2 emissions prevented. at that time and even now, WB and JICA will have a financial role in metro rail construction one way or the other.

irony here is that, idea of metro rail to fight climate change was promoted by the west, this climate change activism to prevent construction of metro rail is also promoted by the west. their own ideas are working cross purposes with each other.
