LCA TEJAS MK-I & MK-IA: News and Discussion (52 Viewers)

Americans taking delivery of F35s before the jets were combat capable has more to do with training pilots with the new aircraft
Pretty sure iaf pilots will also need to practice flying tejasmk1a.
It's has more optimised flight software.
Aesa radar, modified cockpit layout, new tactics will be needed with new capabilities.
And you don't need missiles firing actually to practice bvr combat, most bvr combat practice are about getting lock on target.

Just like tejas mk1 firing astra doesn't mean it's certified on mk1a.
Pilots certified for tejas mk1 doesn't mean they are certified on mk1a for full spectrum operations.

Americans taking delivery of F35s before the jets were combat capable has more to do with training pilots with the new aircraft. Our IAF morons need to learn to tone down their expectations. These are the same morons who keep saying "We will fight with what we have" when asked about declining squadron strength. And when aircrafts are made to be delivered they have second thoughts suddenly about the technology? Do these freaking idiots want more Pilots to lose lives flying MiG-21s and Jaguars? Even the IOC certified Tejas is more safer than MiG-21 and Jaguar.
Same high standard folks accepted Rafale without an AAM. And waited for meteor to get integrated for years. Their high standards only arises when Indian products are in question.

The first Su30s that were delivered didn't have Bars radar or the canards afaik

And Tejas not firing one missile makes it "not mk1a"

🤡

Anyway, Tejas will endup like Marut, hope the stuff built for Tejas like Uttam radar, EW etc can be exported to interested foreign countries.

The Jews lost IAI Lavi to the dalali of their politicians and airforce guys for the F-16, but the made good money by developing all the techs they made for it like radar, missiles and EW and exporting.

Zero chance of the Americans sharing any tech ... at most it will be screwdriver assembly
f404 is 1970-80s tech, which we also have but due to 0 will from the govt we aint using it, burgerica can share but again it will demand jaziya for local prodcution of f404. the engine doesnt have some next level tech which we dont have, so they might give us the production line

if ge had shut down the production line, and its suppliers went bankrupt as they said. then what happened to the 32 mk1? were they flying? coz they need spares and blades replacement regularly. which means our fleet was grounded for a major period due to burgerica musings. any news which came from 2022 to 2024 regarding grounding of iaf fighters due to engine spares issues?

India needs to focus on and capitalize on its strengths. The Dry Kaveri engine is on the verge of being certified for the GHATAK UCAV. Developing a B-2 Spirit-style bomber powered by four Dry Kaveri engines would give India a strategic edge and reduce its dependence on manned fighter jets for bombing missions. The way forward lies in finding innovative solutions to work around existing shortcomings while simultaneously addressing shortcomings through continuous development.

Tejas MK1A and MK2 will significantly enhance India’s capability to deploy BrahMos, along with a wide range of Russian, Israeli, and indigenous weapons already present in the Indian Air Force arsenal.

What good is a dedicated bomber for India?

We don't have to travel long distances to get to Pakistan and most of China's assets are in the east , a trip above the Himalayas trying to bomb that is a once way mission to nothing .

Instead of trying to copy others , we shd aim to solve our own issues . What we need is more nuclear submarines with long range missiles which we can park in the South China Sea to get the Chinese population centers in reach .

And as for Pakistan , more stand off weapons , the country is thankfully so shallow that it does not take a lot to hit everywhere and stay far away from the border . As shown when the IAF sent Brahmos everywhere they wanted in OP Sindhoor.

No.
Iaf has high standards they want fully capable jet, integrated with missiles and weapons from start, tejasmk1a still hasn't fired astra missile.
And hal had delays in other things beside engines, like integrating uttam and ew suite, firing and integration of astra, delay in other subsystems too.

Unlike americans with their low standard who took delivery of first batch of f35's when they were not even combat capable, and then slowly as they continued taking delivery, f35's were becoming IOC certified, and weapons and other integration continued while delivery of f35's was happening at the same time.

basically, IAF, HAL, DRDO, Indian gov. All have combined faults here.

This is even beyond human level comprehension if it true. Eurofighter Typhoon is supposed to be integrated with Meteor by 2030, Even F35 Meteor mating is by 2030. Meanwhile IAF is flying coffins like Jaguar, Mig which is crashing left right an center.

It is like saying I will not buy the TATA Nexon since there is no ventilation seat, but I will use the 1950 Ambassdor Mk2. The Tata nexon can still be installed with aftermarket ventilator seat. Unfortunately the MK2 ambassdor will be death machine in 2025 road traffic.

It makes sense if the main idea is to get imported jets ...it starts to make a lot of sense

TBH hal and drdo also has fault of overpromising here, promising integration with weapons before delivery, when global norm is integrations and certification testing of missiles and weapons with the jet after delivery of initial lot starts.

though delay is the norm in complex and expensive technology but, Drdo and HAL are also responsible for this view IAF has, with how they give in to IAF's demands easily or themselves overpromise things, not taking into account realism.
Drdo and hal still does not have industrial capabilities and sorted out processes for fastback that other global firms have, yet they overpromise.

This practice of overpromise and aggressive timelines that will most likely be missed and face delays, is somewhat standard in our gov. Industry.
ISRO also has same thing.

As I said before

2 weeks to end of July... where is the promised first MK1A jet delivery ...? Can't blame GE as they have delivered 1 or 2 engines .

HAL said the jets were ready just waiting for engines ....

even the top air force took the delivery of half complete f35 to show support to its indigenous efforts and here we have MoD and import air force who want half baked baguette first

20 years spent trying to get a bulk order for Rafale.
MoD budgets aren't big enough to cover it even during Congi dalal era, so no scope for big Tejas or MWF orders.

Spending money from the IAF to the HAL , both Indian govt entities is taking money from one hand and giving to another. Instead of thst they want to give money to the neighbor.

Really hard to understand.

That’s what the Category-B engines are for, they’re spare engines purchased with the original lot and were kept with HAL. Obviously spares of critical and regular replacement parts would have been purchased and stocked based on the number of aircraft ordered by the IAF of the MK1 and HAL/ADA’s prototypes, it’s not like HAL & IAF didn’t know the GE-404 IN20 would close at some point, here’s the approximate number (120+) of the Tejas Specific variant of the GE-404 produced till now from GE’s own website. You make too many assumptions in your assertions.IMG_2921.webp

IAF wants Rafale.
Govt/MoD find a bulk order too expensive.

However now because of the fighter squadron crisis they seem more amenable to a Rafale order.
Dassault is also being sweet now with the fuselage production domestically and M88 MRO etc.

Anyway DRDO/HAL/ADA will be kept employed by these MWF/AMCA style mnrega projects, but they won't get big orders even if it's past the prototype and trials stage.

Mind you this is not to maintain sovereign capability to build fighter jets and weapon systems but to give sarkari karamcharis employed

For anyone who was wondering about what are the differences between the various variants of the GE-404 engine and why they require certain different suppliers/supply lines for parts, it’s due to their unique specifications and modifications to suit the aircraft they’re integrated with.
