LCA TEJAS MK-I & MK-IA: News and Discussion

So can we declare this as marut 2.0

Either we can attempt to change engine but again 3-4 years

Or ig these are pressure tactics by upcoming regime might be forcing us to allow starlink and import of tesla cars

Trashing entire Tejas program will be disaster.

Best will be to keep in on backburner till the engines arrive (if they even arrive). Start development of Kaveri / whatever indigenous engine option is available. Yeah I know it will take time, we should have started it 10 years back. But since we didn't the next best time is right now.

Meanwhile order some stop-gap jets like 2 Sqn of Su-30MKI or Mig-29 or perhaps, old Mirage-2000s.

Just because they said they will deliver that doesn't mean they need to
If 20 engines can be delivered in March why can't they deliver 2 to three engines now which won't delay mk1a induction
Better try to fit rd engine into tejas. Waiting more for ge engines would be disaster.

same information was available in oct, what's new here?

Now probably it's mid-2025 not March April.
Also in September news , 2 engines were set to be delivered in November itself.

" On the supply of aero-engines, HAL is slated to get delivery of at least two GE-F404 engines per month from Nov onwards, as per the fresh commitment given by General Electric, officials told TOI.
“The assurance is there. But whether the delivery of the aero-engines actually begins in Nov remains to be seen,” an official said. "

BC they haven't yet completed certifications and essential testing for AAM and EW suite
These guys have their own share of incompetency and blunders too
These are some rudimentary tests that can be carried out post induction as well.

Probably IAF is adamant that tests need to be carried out pre-induction without which they will not accept the aircraft into service.

This is the Indian armed forces' top brass mentality.
" We are only 'customers' for Desi products, but dalals, guinea pigs, testers, and funder for 'india specific' foreign maal. "

Idk why people are prima facie blaming GE. HAL has not completed the development, its as simple as that. If they had, we would have got the first 2 Tejas mk1A by now. They have done a "First flight" of Tejas mk1A , but they cannot deliver a even one of them.

GE issues come later. Probably its sort of a cover up.

HAL has reported completion & ground testing of 14 platforms by grade-b storage engine in Nov only. They'll probably have a squadron worth of platforms (ie 16) by new year.

I don't see much of an issue. 3 Mig-21 squadrons are being replaced by Mark1A, rest are additions & it'll be fine is they come in the next FY.
