guys, hear me out.. an outlandish idea..from my tech brain - not an aero tech by any standard)
the current existing tejas mk1A dev team - which is probably working on Mk2, AMCA, TEDBF etc.. could probably add one extra aicraft:
Tejas B - with russian or french engine.
this is parallel and more like "HJT/IJT" project for new/incoming engineers to get their hands on a real project.

this would:
1) skill up the newbie aero techs,
2) create a pathway to reduce dependency on single point failure (GE engine) for any future versions in case Kaveri is delayed further.
3) ensure we have available engines and a slightly faster turnaround time in case we have a grounded tejas plane (US sanction on engine parts etc)

this does require more funds, however, but the outcome will be a reduced risk (This will also help in ensuring in future, we can get Kaevri in)

however, the best bet is STILL, getting kaveri on the tejas ASAP.

lol...IAF didnt replace 841 mig 21 with tejas...coz we face delays after delays. otherwise ideally mig 21 should be retire near 2005-2010.
by the way its not necessary we hv to induct 841 tejas to replace 841 mig 21. coz tejas hv many capabilities nd technology better than mig 21. beside this we also bought 272 su 30 mki also. u cant compaire one su 30 mki with one mig 21.
but in su 30 mki replacement...u r suggesting it should be replaced by another 4.5 genration aircraft. keep in mind AMCA 6 squads r not replacement of su 30 mki. but addition of indian squads number to reach near 42 squads.

42 squadron was sanctioned way back before drones became major part of airforce worldwide. You contradicted yourelf Tejas is much more capable than Mig21 then AMCA is also much more capable than Su 30 so no need to replace by 4.5 gen jets

yeah...i misread ur comment. thats why i deleted my last comment.
i thought u r suggesting su 30 replacement with tejas mark 2 or ORCA. ok if 272 su 30 mki will replace with AMCA additional number (i mean additional squads than 6 squads we plan now), than its best option. but in 272 su 30 mki case, atleast we hv to induct near half number of AMCA. which will still huge number to operate for us near 2050. coz we r talking about:-
6 squad AMCA = 18×6 = 108
15 squad 272 su 30 = atleast we should replace them with 7-8 squad of AMCA.
that makes = 18×8 = 144.
so we r talking about 144+108 = 252 numbers of AMCA.
near 2050 we r near 20 trillion dollar economy. than our defense budget will be near chinese level of 250 billion dollar. chinese still operating near 200 j20 fighters. but near 2050, our 20 trillion or 250 billion will be much more inflated, than current chinese budget. so i hv doubt, can we operate 250 number of AMCA near 2050 with other many 4.5 genration aircraft??

The way trump is going on defence deals looks like he will shove 54-72 F35 down under IAF ass and we will gladly take it which will definitely kill one or other MK1A MK2 or AMCA in numbers. Su 30s will be upgraded and will stay beyond 2040 (like mig21 now)

yes...42 squads estimated near 1990-2000 (if i m not wrong). but drones didnt replace aircraft role, but addition in air force. so its not make sense that drones nd sam system make ur airforce to induct lesser fighter aircrafts. now most defense exfart (which i listened) suggested to hv near 54 squadron of aircraft in two front war case. coz now pakistan nd china capabilities improved far much in 2000. now pakistan is much more closer in capabilities to IAF comapre to 2000.
