• Minimi uses both mags and belt
• So does Negev and the new Chinese Squad Automatic Weapon (sorry I can't recall it's name, but don't worry it won't be very different than something like QZJ-420)
• Those weird ahh PKMs from North Korea uses it

The argument is case you run out of belt then you can use the magazine of your team mates. Definitely there's complexity in developing them but not significantly. Also the feeding issue can be solved pretty easily by having a adjustable gas regulator.

In my opinion there are two reason why we don't see much use of these

1. Not many new machine guns are made.
Machine guns are made for sustained fire and a result they've a way longer service life than rifle. So generally armies don't try to replace them like the M2 Brownings designed in 1920s is still the only .50 Cal HMG for almost half the world. So not many light machine guns have been made after FN Minimi came up with this concept of dual-feed system and whatever have been made have one; Negev, Chinese one, some Russian prototypes

2. The concept of SAW or LMG is quickly going extinct.
I always say that with time you come up with new technologies and manufacturing techniques which results in distinctions between different weapons getting "fluid". Like how would you differentiate a big kamikaze drone from a cruise missile? Or how would you differentiate a guided rocket from a missile? Similiar what was once quite heavy General Purpose Machine Gun (like PKM and MAG) have now become as light as LMG/SAW because of new materials like aluminium and titanium. So why is someone going to have a SAW in 5.56x45mm when he can have a full sized MMG in 7.62x51mm in pretty much the same weight category!?
As soon as you switch to 7.62x51mm you deviate from rest of your group using assault rifle cartridge (like we'd be using 7.62x39mm) so what interchangeable magazine are you talking about?

2 point makes sense why this concept isn't much popular or widespread use and when american were going around with replacement of 5.56 i remember a statement which was something like saw gunner almost felt like they were firing nothing due to lack of fire power and m240 gunner felt like invincible due to that bigger round
7.62 mmg in packaging in lmg than it is truely a big upgrade

Babies come out of the womb faster than a .22 out of that smoothbore "barrel" and through the suppressor.
Ohhh...c'mon now my Crow Fren
Just admit that you're jealous of the unprecedented firepower I bring on the table

ZiP-22 was a "thing" (won't even call it a gun) in .22LR and it was a complete commercial failure. Every single thing that could have ever failed on a gun, failed. All of my previous 3-4 posts are utter shitposts...
