Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

If anyone has access to the DDRs indigenization appreciation hour please post it here ... It looks like it got removed . It had a pretty good summary on all the different options under which the F35 could operate here (none good).

Have heard AIM multiple times saying that the GE deal had slow engine delivery in their timeline.
On top of that potshot on HVT :)

Yes it is true, GE had been ringing the warning bell for years before HAL signed the deal, and when they did, they had clearly indicated delays are nigh impossible to avoid given they were being asked to reopen a shut production line.

Did that delay was included in the earlier timeline of march 23? if not, then I don't know why GE is silent when HAL is dragging their reputation through the mud. GE are global player and take their PR very seriously.

Because if GE speaks out, they know some chutiya babu in MoD will cancel any prospects of future orders.

isn't it quite the opposite, our Tejas, mk2 and AMCA are all designed around GE's engines. So they literally have monopoly over india's aero engines..

Indeed. India set out to develop a turbofan to avoid reliance on foreign suppliers for engines but did not develop its own turbofan. Not for want of trying, some might say. Very much for want of trying, I would say.

It's GE engines or nothing for all indigenous designs until at least the early/mid 2030's IMO.

How useful is this buddy buddy refueling? The babus are so stupid and stinging because all it does is tie up one useful combat plane for refueling when it could have been used for combat role
It can be quite useful in several scenarios and also might be one of the mandatory requirements for Tejas .

The purpose of the Su-30 is primarily for defensive operations. It will engage targets while staying within the country's territory, similar to its role in Operation Swift Retort. For offensive operations beyond the Line of Control (LoC), a different platform would be required. Since it operates within the territory, it can also be used for buddy refueling.

I really feel pity for Su 30 MKi. It’s been used as buddy refuller mini AWACS and what not. IAF should buy the tankers and AWACS and stop flexing these side gigs.

Su30mki is not to be pitied. With new aesa coming in with 2400 trm it will actually become almost as powerful as netra mk1 awecs.

🤣 Is that why all rudram family is being integrated to su30mki! .

Anti radiation missiles will be the first wave of attack over enemy infrastructure to neutralize their radars.

With rudram3 mki can strike across pakistan and deep into Tibet.

There is no concept of X planes needs to go outside/inside. We just have ganduji version doctrine, thus we need to do within LOC drama.

Also the SU-30MKI while can be formidable is still 2000s era relic. We are still in upgradation phase. It needs the new AESA, full blown jammers. We started recently and it take some time to apply across the fleet.

On good day, SU 30MKI with full fledge EW suit can blind enemy SAM and take out any point of Interest sites and come back safely. Israelis doing with F-15 and F-16. F-15 is an contemporary platform to our SU-30MKI.
