AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft

Mail-SPL-468-X60-2x
Metal cutting started in 2022, 1st prototype in 2031,
9 years for AMCA prototype in 2020s😵😵‍💫:eeek::shocked::wtf::wtfcat::drunk2::faint::faint2::fyeah::gtfo::rip:
Vs
YF-22 in 3 years from 1987-90.
& it was re-designed in 3 months with 1980s primitive CAD tools.
Definitely we've many world records.:party::peace::rock::rockon:
- fastest 5gen design
- fastest 5gen re-design
- fastest 5gen prototype manufacture
- slowest 5gen design/re-design
- slowest 5gen prototype manufacture
- last/latest 5gen fighter jet

Again I would like to ask you where does this 2031 prototype thing comes from? Why is everyone taking this as an official statement? When there are contradictory statements from the same alleged officials in other news articles. What stops our media houses from cooking officials out of thin air like CNN? Who is this official and what position this official holds in ADA?

Ok, let's forget 2031 & all these news.
If you consider previous roll-out year of 2028 then also it is a record.🤷‍♂️:ROFLMAO::facepalm4:
You should check other Indian forums, sites also bcoz info is spread in bits & pieces. For example some public documents are shared out about making CAD of production version, whch should have been completed by now.
It is collective delay by all past ruling parties of GoI & DoD units w.r.t. funding, facilities, tools, people, etc.
Action speak more than words.
You joined here this year on Feb-5 but I've been saying this since long time.

Extreme take by that guy. Drdo work with a limited budget and but have given us a lot of improvements with regards to missiles, radars etc. As for GTRE they are working on a peanuts budget, poor fellas don't even have an FTB, begging foreign countries for testing slots every time they improve something in the engine.

If anyone should be blamed, it should be the all the phorein dalals and absolutely subhuman penny pinching babus working in MoD.

Where is the detail design and engineering finalization?
I am not hearing FSED commenced yet so technically T0 has not even begun
Hoping to be proven wrong
Yeah that's what I got to understand from the print article
The day final cdr is completed and production partner decided
T0 will begin

Today, I explored information about the AMCA and analyzed numerous articles comparing its prototype to other operational 5th-gen fighter jets. I was astonished to discover that the AMCA is not merely a standard 5th-generation jet; it surpasses typical expectations. With its advanced features, I believe it has the potential to emerge as a 6th-generation fighter.

AFAIK about diff. b/w 5 & 6gen which i have put in a dedicated thread & still exploring the emerging era, AMCA cannot be 6gen but overlap till 5.5gen.

2031 rollout :rolleyes:. at this point just take the L and import f35s or su57s or whatever. We all know ADA will miss this deadline as well. 0 sense of urgency or seriousness at all. pathetic. IAF chief was not wrong
Also if I'm not wrong, this "5th gen taiyyara" won't be coming with supercruise and DAS/EOTS either. But I am not surprised, Indian aviation projects in general have been a joke.

Mate IAF hasn't even received all of first 40 tejas mk1 which it had ordered way back in 2010 lol.. lol what will HAL lover will say on this??

See IAF chief confirming the same in this video.. it's easy to lay blame on IAF for import lover but seriously what options do they hv when the whole responsibility of defending country in air from two hostile adversaries lies solely on them.. while HAL sarkari babus make merry with their chai biscuit work culture

no published date provided for AMCA prototype but during one of the interviews I think in late 2024 the roll out date was given 2028-2029...

so basically add another decade for serial production so in numbers AMCA will be available by 2040..

IAF seriously need to look into SU57 with MKI like license production now and hopefully some hot section TOT for AL51 engine.

F35 with USA we should never depend upon.

In this entire nonsense only two that needs to be blamed are politicians & MoD babus, it's neither the IAF nor HAL nor DRDO.

Those 2 are the ones with higher authority, they are ones who should make sure everything is smooth, and hence they are the ones responsible for it

Looking at both articles, the timelines haven't really changed. This could be massively expedited though with the involvement of the private sector. 'Roll Out' here could mean IOC or LSP variant given the experience with Tejas MK1/MK2.

Prototype development from date of sanction takes atleast 3.5-4 years on average. Tejas MK2 was sanctioned in 2022 but roll out is expected this year (2025) and first flight in early 2026. AMCA was sanctioned last year (2024) so formulate accordingly.

However it also seems likely that GoI and IAF have made up their mind about the purchase of a 5th generation fighter in the interim. Looks like IAF may go for Su 57E license production to keep up numbers and get a similar RCS fighter jet as the J 35A.

  • Roll Out : 2027-2028
  • First Flight : 2028-2029
  • IOC : 2031-2032
  • LSP : 2032-2033
  • SP : 2035
  • Induction : 2034-2035
Looks like EOI for the 'AMCA Development Phase' will be issued soon. This moves the project from the drawing board to the machine shop.

Sources said according to the timeline decided, the first prototype of India’s own fifth-generation fighter is set to be rolled out by 2031, and the series production is slated to start by 2035.
Sources declined to comment on whether India will go in for limited purchase of fifth-generation fighters, like the F-35 of the US, which is yet to be formally offered. They said that India is currently pushing ahead with the AMCA programme, and that is what is on the cards.

As reported by The Hindu earlier, the design of AMCA is ready and the first prototype is expected to roll out by 2028-29 and production is expected to begin from 2032-33. The target is to have the aircraft ready for induction in 2034.
Development of AMCA is planned to be carried out in two phases, a MK1 with the General Electric F-414 engine and a Mk2 with a more powerful engine planned to be co-developed in partnership with Saran of France for which discussions have been under way over the last few years. The F-414 engine is the same that will power the under-development Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)-Mk2 that was sanctioned in September 2022. A deal to licence-manufacture the F-414 in India by HAL is in advanced states of conclusion.

It is highly unlikely that the U.S. will provide India with the F-35 before 2035, leaving us with the Su-57, which is little more than vaporware, like many post-Soviet Russian products. Purchasing the Su-57 is akin to investing in a risky venture with uncertain returns.

Moreover, given that Russia has struggled to meet its own defense needs, how can it fulfill India’s requirements?

As much as we can shout at top of our lungs, this is an expected timeline for an 5th Gen program. In fact it is somehow faster by within 10 years we have the 5th Gen platform.

While aircraft is one part. The subsystems were also critical since it is an 5th Gen platform.

1. Radar - AMCA Radar showcased in Aero India 25.
2. MAWS - DRDO showcased DCMAWS system which will go into MWF, SU-30MKI. Success of this project will give confidence to install them on AMCA
3. EOTS - This is crucial item for an 5th Gen Platform. There seems to be some tenders. But no big information. Will try to ask in IHR in coming week.
4. 130KN Engine - This is the Achilles heel so far. We don't know who will be the JV Partner. The first prototype will be F414 engine. But the promised engine is an newly developed 5th gen Engine.

Lets see who will be the lead integrator. TASL, HAL, Adani and L&T. For me TASL looks more in contention since they are in assembly for decade and now lead integrator for C-295.
