Actually this is a very good idea . Instead of a GI tag , the MEA in association with the Ministry of Culture & Tourism should come out with a ratings system for AUTHENTIC Indian restaurants specialising in Indian cuisine awarding them stars from 1-5.

We should start with the Anglo countries & move onto other European nations. That way we can weed out Paxtanis & Bangladeshis masquerading as Indian restaurants.

How will Paxtan & BD retaliate ? They can't come up with a similar ranking as people walk in to these restaurants expecting to sample Indian fare not Paxtani or BD fare.

Then some Indians on behalf of pakis will get gi tag.
