India at Olympics

this is a perspective, but need not be the only perspective. i am sure he would have talked about other positive things as well, this clip with melodramatic background music made it out because algorithms dictate the content amplification.

that aside, sunil must be talking from a player's perspective, don't know much about what other hats he wears, other hats like sport administrator, advisor ,patron, financier etc.

other side of the equation is badminton in Hyderabad, same discourse filled with impotence was applied to badminton as well before, but badminton fraternity turned it around once an opportunity came their way when gopichand won that tournament in 2001.

while gopichand is the public face of hyderabad's badminton, very little is talked about badminton's backers and patrons from hyderabad, forgot the name of that hyd guy who keeps gifting expensive cars to winners of important tournaments.

Hyderabad invested in tennis and weight lifting as well, but they didn't pan out the same way as badminton. other examples are haryana for wrestling, MRF pace academy for cricket etc.

olympic medals are outcome of a process, awareness of the process is important too. if assessments are to be done, they have to done sport by sport. more should be talked about how these regions developed individual sports.

Champs Of The Soil: What Makes Hyderabad The Nursery Of Indian Badminton

MRF Pace Academy is a great initiative when we struggles with First bowler stocks in Cricket. The first gen guys were Varun Aaron, Dinda etc. We can troll them for their International cricket performance but they went on to become Domestic Legends. This triggers the chain reaction where now we have battery of fast bowlers. Dennis Lilee helped to setup this.

On top of that IPL franchise pre tournaments are also becoming a go to place for rehab and training.
Send in Rohit Sharma yaar , only he can defeat Australia

Brohit after the WC2023 loss, just declared that he is not going to accumulate runs for stat padding. Rather declared we will going to play in an attacking fashion. Went into the tournament, attacked every team from the first ball without giving any time for them to settle down. Even Virat Kohli struggled to adjust to this style but still decided to play like that. Hence except 78 in Finals other socres are single and double digits. Brohit went either boom or bust. But that give enough time for middle order to capitalize for further runs.

Finally we had 2 Fast bowlers , 2 all rounder, 3 spinners (7 bowling options) and complete pinch hitters. Thus we destroyed lot of team with fun due to that flexibility the playing 11 had.

Also the Gautam Gambhir looks very clear with one thing. You came here to Win and not to be popular.

Day started with an bronze and then went full monkey.

1. Bronze in 50 M rifle. (Two shot in 9-10 range cost us the silver)
2. Hockey (1-2 against Belgium). Conversion of Penalty corners is mediocre for us. Also Defence, Mid is there and clearly no sign of Forwards. The forwards are struggling to execute field goals (Lot of chances missed against New Zealand and Argentina).
These two are clear weakness which is the problem they need to fix before the QF.
3. Boxing - Nikat lost the match.
4. TT - Both the women (Bhatra and Sreeja) lost against top seeds.
5. Satwik and Chirag loss in QF. (Downhill from Second set against Malaysian Pairs).
6. Lakshay and Prannoy - Lakshay won the match. Will meet Axelson (WR2).
7. 20KM Walk - (Men and Women) - Lost
8. Archery - Lost

Fully Gold hope is for badminton and Javelin.

I hope Gigachad Neeraj will finally throw that damn 90m throw. It is eluding for some time.

boxing is on verge of collapse too , nishant and lovlina left. lovlina can win but difficult for nishant dev. only shooting will save us this time from embarrassment like rio. archery - T rai 28 years of experience guy lost to low rank UK chap.

many of the top ranking countries like china don't send their players to world championship and many a times as witnessed with indian athletes ( many a times) winning those championship generate a false top seed behavior which gets softly removed in olympics. Small sports which don't have a mass following has olympics as the greatest podium not world championships.
In short many top players only sweat for olympics and don't care about world championships.

We beat some subpar and average players in various events and starts believing we will kill it this time in Olympics!

How the qualification happens if someone not participating in championship

Until we dont free players from bread and butter thoughts we dont get medal. Constant salary to players and good training team will only get us medal.

I dont think players are on full payroll like bcci does.

All top players are already employed by the government. Neeraj Chopra works for the Indian Army, kishore Jena is with the CISF,Tajinderpal Singh Toor works for the Navy,Swapnil Kusale who won the Bronze medal today works for the Indian Railways.

Does they get 1cr salary like bcci??

comparing with BCCI salaries is simply apples to oranges.

Cricket in India is an entirely private entity, they can pay anything they want whereas Olympic associations depend on the government's funds. The government employs the athletes under sports quota and pays them salaries as per their rank structure.
