I am not considering Pakistanis having 5th gen for upcoming 5-8 years for various reasons. But I don't agree with China being focused on Taiwan. Its a tiny country can't last for 6 month if all out war broke out with all the help from Muricans which is questionable.


not really, With super sukhoi and AMCA combo they will have the capacity to communicate with every asset that we deploy. A fight with system of systems (what saurav jha mentioned @DDR)
It is also backed by the fact that every 5th gen operator has doubled down on their production of 4.5 gen fighters because they need their numbers in air foe 5th gen to work in shadows.

There were reports that US asked India to join NATO last year but we declined for obvious reasons.. But my point was if we have to choose between F-35 and NATO. The later is more convinient and cheaper option.

China is preparing for a war against the Americans, a vast majority of their air assets are positioned towards the east, far away from India. There is not enough infrastructure near the border to support large air operations from China. Chinese jet's have to takeoff with less payload as well due to higher elevation of Tibetan plateau. We've only seen very small number of J20 in tibet. Fear mongering Chinese airpower in numbers doesn't make sense when logistically it would be near impossible for China to actually field that many fighters near India.

I believe the IAF also comes to such a conclusion, else J-20 has been in production for very long time and MoD did not bat an eye. But when Pakistan announced purchase for only a few J-35, there is suddenly interest again in import stopgap yada yada. Pakistan fighters are 100% aimed towards india, while China can only muster up small portion of it's fleet in the local area.

China has 21 tankers right are now.
And producing 10-15 Y-20 transport/tanker/awacs per year.
By 2030 they will have 35-45 tanker aircraft and could reach 70+ tankers by 2035, plus they are also going for conversion system to convert transport varient of y20 to temporary tankers when needed.

Plus j20 with just IWB payload(stealth mode) won't be much affected by high elevation.

I have confused opinion on this for 2 reasons
A) Kind of understandable that you can't do firing trials because of lack of engines (cat B only 8 that too were delayed by IAF AFAIK)
B) IAF suggested some last minute sofware changed in last year March which needed to be validated first (don't know if commitment to deliver 10mk1a's was when contract was signed 2021 or when changes were suggested, March,24)

F-35 is the worst option for India.
to counter 500 J20/J35, 56 F-35 will be shot down within weeks..
but the money needed to mentain them until their eventual fate is equivalent to 4-5 years of delays for AMCA which can realistically act as a deterrance against any agression in near future. I don't understand why F-35 is even a discussion unless it is being funded by uncle sam.


Not to mention, Muricans will have access to our bases for MRO of such jets and full control over data collected and weaponary. target aquisition requires its signature to match with given library.

Better option is to join NATO and have them defend our borders instead of paying for your own colonisation.

You mean that Chinese made third rate Stealth fighters will shoot down the F-35 within a week……. Dream on.

If we're talking a LSCO with China with 500 J-20 then everything would be shot down in weeks; be it all our antiques or 250 Su-30MkIs that we've kept upgrading continuously to Super Ultra Pro Max standard or whatever numbers of AMCA we'll theoretically produce in next 15 years. It's not a fact of how advanced J-20 is or the usual BS of F-35's kill switch or Su-57 being a cheaper...it's has more to do with the budget, infrastructure and first mover's advantage of China.

As for NATO, we can't even dream of joining the current NATO led by USA with such high uncertainty in foreign policies. Maybe if there's a "new" NATO with say France as its centerpiece with countries like Japan and SoKo also in it, then we can think of it.

The entire airforce is up arms to justify the F35 purchase, no wonder we are an imported airforce. This "STOPGAP" shit has been going on since the purchase of Mig21, as well as still buying stopgap. Come the early 40s, china will have matured its 6th gen and we will start scaping for the "STOPGAP" FCAS !!

it would be better if India joins the FCAS program, at least it won't be a "STOPGAP" in the 40s !!

The theater ization & modernization of the Chinese armed forces are due to be completed in 2027-28. Add a year's buffer though it's mostly on schedule or at least I haven't come across articles claiming otherwise .

Whatever you can anticipate, whether Taiwan or India will occur post 2028 or 29.

Very heartening to learn that we are safe till 2028-29. Previously it was 2027 iirc .

We'll have Amca prototype flying by 2028-29 ( if not further delayed).

That should count for something.
