The problem of making a domestic equivalent to apps like X (Formerly Twitter, most still call it Twitter), Youtube (Yt), Telegram (T.G), Instagram (I.G) etc isA social media app needs to win its domestic market first before conquering overseas.
All the top American and Chinese companies follow this pattern. Koo never made any ripples, even in the Indian market.
It's unfair to blame either Koo or the Indian government solely. It's a combination of Koo being bad with its product and the Indian government having no clue on how to provide an advantage to a domestic platform over a foreign one.
We have competent enough app developers in India to make such a task possible. We Indians have achieved great feats in the programing, coding, IT sectors etc. India has one of the most advanced IT sectors on the planet, and is in the list of countries of "Top 10 countries with the best programmers".
If we want to make an App with the same functions as X, we will (Not can, but WILL!) do it. The same applies to any desi-alternative that we would want to make. But the problem is: Who will use it? Let's face it, most of the Indian population will never bother to use it, simply because they won't find it interesting.
Unless there comes a day when apps like X, YouTube, Telegram, Instagram, Discord, Reddit impose a ban on users from India and completely cut off Indian users from making accounts on these apps, you will never see a mass usage of desi Indian apps by our Indian population because our marketing strategies suck big time.
