The bolt thrust is 60,000N and we can have either 416 or 4340 with both being HTSR condition. Assuming we choose 4340, the yield strength should be 600MPa. But we need a safety margin of atleast 50%, so 60kN is now 90kN. To counter this force you'd need a shear area of 90kN/600 = 150mm². How many lugs should be there on the bolt? 7!? Okay, so per lug you'd need 22mm². But then...there are no free lunches, one has to get hold of "a bunch of academics" who can create an "intellectual" aura in written format around the product you intend to sell in the future. right infront of our eyes folks are running an intellectual scam worth billions of $ around a topic as boring as climate science targeting lowest common denominator. getting a white paper or concept paper written on "why creating a family of small arms should be a focus" surely needs a bit more effort.
it's not about a particular weapon, it's about planting an idea in the heads of future decision makers who are probably in ranks of major or lt. general at the moment.
yes, really smart people are rare, that's the way the world works. the triangle apples, as you go to the top there are fewer people.
Why bother with all this sh*t when you can make another app that delivers grocery in 9.75 minutes!? Or another AI based start-up that can be made obsolete by just one new feature of OpenAI.
