Indian Special Forces

Maj Sapru is one fine man! True officer; well read but grounded, opinionated yet cool headed & prolly been a fine operator too!

Maj Walia on the other hand was all of these but with a dash of daredevilry:)

I remember hearing maj sapru, reminiscing an old anecdote wherein he debated with his buddy whether or not to takeup an uphill battle to a militant hideout somewhere in the pir panjals. Ultimately they decided against it.

But he also cheekily remarked, "Had Sudhir been there, he would have gone up 100% - he'd say - militant hai, contact hoga, thokenge aur kya"

At the end of the day both were fine gentlemen & hardened operators but one was to loose his life fighting and the other one was to be a cool retired uncle who would narrate all those stories over a drink!

What? The ops didn’t end in July 1999? The op in which Majir Walia was involved cost 9 Para, 5 men and they killed 13 intruders.
That op ended but the area saw a lot of ops post kargil from the information available.

I can't verify it.

There are no bold and old operators..there are bold operators and there are old operators but no bold and old operators.

When i tell people that in 90s militants used to come in 10s and 20s and sometimes the strength was such that Army avoided contact and let them pass people dont believe it.

And Para used to be very less in number so for them it would be suicide.

He was Cmdt 22, before him Brigadier Bhupesh Hada was occupying the chair:D
Woah.

He was also the one who helped setup the wind/vaccum tunnel for paratrooper training in SFTS if am not v wrong.

Became a victim of dirty politics but served with his head high.

Most decorated SF operative in India.

He will probably spend time with his horses now😄

SFTS and at one more place:D

True and sad, internal politics in the army has delayed his promotion to Brigadier by 10 yrs...

One of the most decorative SF chaps.

True!

None of them really exploit the opportunity & end up asking dumbass questions like, "Operations ke time peete ho?"

They should be interviewed by folks like Shawn Ryan/FNG academy but alas......
I hate that one question that every chutiya podcaster asks, "What's the mindset of a SF operative" Arey maa chudaye Mindset, have heard hundreds of similar answers to same question. Ask about weapons, Operations and grill em on questions like INT gathering and deputation to units like SG/Archer/Phantom/52SAG.:)
