Indian Special Forces

Sorry I prefer gormint do not divert money to Bhartiya Para Special Forces Rojgar Yojana.

NSG is the tip or spear against 0.5 front war. It seems NSG is not needed now but you wouldn't have said the same in 80s and 90s.

My point is not to undermine the importance of handling internal issues or urban terror threats like 26/11 but to question whether the NSG, as it stands, is the most efficient use of resources.

If the NSG has been rarely deployed for combat, wouldn’t it make more sense to direct that budget toward units like the Army SF or state police SWAT? The NSG could either be repurposed for regular CT ops in Kashmir, relieving the Army SF and RR, or its resources could strengthen existing structures.

Given, that our armed forces are loosely modeled on the UK, any exceptional high-intensity terror attack would come under the prerogative of the SAS. My point is if we have a force like NSG, maintained exclusively for domestic CT ops why not use it extensively in the actual CT zone i.e. Kashmir? NSG any day is better trained and equipped than CRPF or RR for such roles. What are they getting trained for then?

Also, restructuring the Parachute Regiment into a dedicated SF unit while creating a separate Airborne/Pathfinder regiment would enhance role clarity and operational efficiency. This isn’t about abandoning urban CT capability but ensuring every resource is used where it's most effective.

NSG's operational area of responsibility is only part of the story, NSG is also a centre of excellence . meaning if anyone in the country is going to write a field manual on domain expertise, it is going to come from NSG. in practical terms, what ever knowledge they gain, is the one that is going to be disseminated to future or current state/city "SWAT" or bomb disposal teams.

if RR or IA gain or develop new tactics, chances are that knowledge is going to spread horizontally within the IA but not a parallel govt silo. it will need some MHA IPS/IAS officer with out-of-box thinking to recognise the value of such tactic to bring it to central gormint level so that it can be disseminated.

NSG may not be actively operating in J&K, but their troops are rotating in and out of J&K in their parent org before and after their NSG deputation, some of them.

Lets say NSG is disbanded today…

Do you think Para will become SEALs?

Is NSG stopping Para from purchasing anything?

Haha this is where our understanding of the problem is.

Para SF are getting obliterated in encounters and wearing worse equipment than Ugandans coz of themselves…They..Their..Them!!!!!!!

NSG is a elite counter terrorism, sabotage and hijack and bomb squad unit which TRAINS Para SF on Urban combat.

Sky Marshalls are also a big responsibility of NSG.

When a Para SF operator goes and joins NSG he takes only thing is his Airborne batch…whereas he gets to train in unarmed combat, urban warfare, grooming which his unit didnt provide, new firing techniques, new tactics etc.

Its a win win situation even for the Para.

Just curious: do you have a personal animosity towards para sf?! 😂

I dont think he does, but the point makes sense. I mean look at how thr Army treats it's SF, a super infantry. Someone retired said that Ghataks are the special forces for the battalion and SF are the special forces in general...that's not the disntinction. Doing tactical raids is no longer considered 'special' what it used to be. How much have Para SF shown in any of the MOUT exercises with the US, the battlefields are changing and we dont seem to.

Lastly I dont understand what people are saying here about NSG, it is obviously needed
  1. It has the best EOD unit in the country. It's even called National Bomb Data Centre (NBDC), dont think that means something ?
  2. NSG is the only one to provide antihijacking and air marshal capability, dont tell me that is not required.
  3. NSG is India's fedral Counter Terrorism and Anti terrorism unit.....if there's a threat in a metropolitan city beyond the capabilities of regional SWAT, NSG is what we need.
