LCA TEJAS MK-I & MK-IA: News and Discussion

Channels like Defence Matrix are trying to claim that Tejas mk1A can carry only 2 x BVR missiles.
Im pretty sure that 2 x Drop tanks are not necessary for most kind of missions like interceptions, Air defence or even Cross border ops. At most 1 x 700 liters drop tank under the belly is a decent addition if going for longer CAP or Cross border. I mean Lahore is around 270 kms away from Srinagar airbase and Islamabad is 170 kms away.
Hence pretty sure in most missions 4 x Astra missiles will be carried.
Can anyone confirm?

Endurance matters in CAP, a little less in interception mission. Instead of removing tanks , better choice would be fitting a 3rd BVR under the belly.

In a2a combat you munuver alot reduce altitude drastically dragging aircraft into thinner air.
The use of afterburner is needed while cranking in order to evade missiles.

Would dual nylon racks help with the issue of missile shortage here?
Yes, but if belly gets a BVR too, then 3BVR + 2 WVR + 2*800L is sufficient and agile load out.

Once a visionary UN Generals claimed Tejas a Mig-21 + aircraft.

Back in 2012, when it really was...

No need for belly... It'll need to wait for CCM-dualrack pylon. May carry 4 BVRs in CAP setup, the Tejas counterpart of this:

A belly dual-rack BVR pylon is planned for Mark2. That'd be nice
