Doubtful if it's going to take 10-12 years to build the first boat, maybe 6-8 years given our decades long experience building the Arihant class boomers.
Each successive boat of the Arihant class featured reduced build time, with the latest S4 said to have taken only 6 years from the keel laying to harbour trials.

The reactor of the arihant is a russian design BARC built, the entire front section of the arihant is a direct copy of the kilo.
Obviously successive boats will take less time.
Here they are basically making a copy of the akula which is a clean sheet as far the shipyard are concerned so the timeline makes sense,
It will be frustrating tracking this project. The only public info from govmint will when it leaves the harbour for trials and when it is goes on patrols. In between screenshots from careless babu power points and OSINT looking at satellite pics of the boat is all we will have . In my estimation this thread will have 5 official updates total in 12 years .... rest will be discussion.
It is also entirely possible that this peice of news is misinformation and the actual SSN is just an arihant with no missile tubes .
