10-12 years, bhaisaab ! Bhaiyo, is it a normal time frame to build a SSN, considering we'll be building it for the 1st time ?

And who has designed these SSN's ?

Doubtful if it's going to take 10-12 years to build the first boat, maybe 6-8 years given our decades long experience building the Arihant class boomers.
Each successive boat of the Arihant class featured reduced build time, with the latest S4 said to have taken only 6 years from the keel laying to harbour trials.

The reactor of the arihant is a russian design BARC built, the entire front section of the arihant is a direct copy of the kilo.
Obviously successive boats will take less time.
Here they are basically making a copy of the akula which is a clean sheet as far the shipyard are concerned so the timeline makes sense,
It will be frustrating tracking this project. The only public info from govmint will when it leaves the harbour for trials and when it is goes on patrols. In between screenshots from careless babu power points and OSINT looking at satellite pics of the boat is all we will have . In my estimation this thread will have 5 official updates total in 12 years .... rest will be discussion.
It is also entirely possible that this peice of news is misinformation and the actual SSN is just an arihant with no missile tubes .

Yes, if you have to invent everything of your own. Nobody will share with you even for a price.

Do chinka have SSNs of their own ? In either case how quickly are they rubber stamping SSNs ? In 10 to 12 years their navy would be double the current size easily while we will still be scratching....

They have 9 of them.
Their Commie doctrine along with Soviet/Russian biraders focuses on Submarine-maxxxing to stop Democratic Aircraft Carriers from spreading Freedom in their countries.

As in all slit-eyed matters btw, a bulk of their stock will be focused in the SCS and nearby seas to keep the aforementioned free and democratic vessels away.

Here’s the thing: China got a massive jumpstart in the aviation industry, thanks to a lot of help from the Russians, Israelis, and even the Americans. The U.S., with its usual foreign policy missteps, thought that helping China develop its aviation sector would pull them away from the Soviets. So, they gave them a hand in building their aircraft industry. On top of that, China was able to bring in a lot of Soviet talent, which further boosted their progress.

But when it comes to submarines, that kind of assistance didn’t happen. Unlike aviation, nobody really helped the Chinese out much in their submarine industry. Submarines are way more tightly controlled by both the U.S. and Russia, and it’s a lot harder to steal or get access to that technology. So, the Chinese have been slower in that field.

In aviation, they’ve managed to produce something like the J-20, which is a bit behind the F-35 but still impressive. But when it comes to submarines, they haven’t been able to produce anything equivalent to a Rubis or Akula-class, which are considered 3rd-gen. Now, the 4th-gen subs—like the Yasen, Seawolf, Virginia, Suffren, and Astute classes—are even more advanced. China’s latest nuclear-powered attack submarine, the Type 095, may barely on surface level may match 3rd gen but may short fall of capabilities of true 3rd-gen subs like the Rubis AMETHYST, Akula, or Trafalgar.

Inexperienced sailors and admirals in Chinese navy are worthless; rather ready to be sunk.

Well to be fair they have extensive spy networks that were able to to get soviet designs ,, but with no hand holding they would suffer in development. Also their competition is the USN which is the best . Ours is whatever the chinese can spare for an expedition. If the USN was our adversary our navy would consist of 3 destroyers and 25 SSKs and 50 missile boats .
