Zorawar Light Tank

14.5 AP is all it'll stop. Car needs hardkill APS to survive, but hardkill APS won't guard against 30mil autocannons. Plus side, the car comes with impressive optics and it'll spot first and outrange IFVs or even the Type-15. IA is not expecting a Ukraine style dogfight ambush warfare in the Himalayas. Considering the weight limit, this is a damn good deal. The Type-15 weighs over 36 tons with it's ERA package.
im not undermining it the optics are no less than state of the art but the ballistic protection could have been a little better but i guess it would in the upcoming models too

Hard Kills APS can't be mounted due to energy requirements, Softkill is the only solution for it and and they also need to look into anything of Electronics measures against drones.

To be honest tank doesn't look impressive by any means at least by design.
Hope they improve in next prototype
"Doesn't look impressive"
Exactly what is the weak link that makes it looks unimpressive?

Looks just like a American Counterpart except the turret.

Indian Light Tank is a make 1 category project where GoI gives 90% funding for developing prototypes, at this point in time this project is not trying to answer all of "Make in India" questions, it is answering a very specific set of questions i.e can Indian industry develop a prototype within a short period of time. the answer is a resounding yes.

let it pass the high altitude tests, let the cockerill turret perform in high altitude (hot and cold conditions), we will have more clarity two years from now.

even if we assume, everything goes well in testing, user certification and RFP there after, induction is a good 5 years away. lots of things can happen between now and then in terms of domestic manufacturing capabilities.

As per drdo chief user trials will be over in 12-18 months and v. Kamat said it will be inducted in 2027. Meaning orders will given quite before that probably just after it finishes trials in 2026
How come u say 5 yrs away ?

DRDO and L&T have to do atleast 6 more months of developmental trials.
and after that, best case scenario sequence (without indecisions in between) :

Jan 2025 - User Trails Begin
Jun 2026 - User Trails End (hot and cold tests in high altitude, have to wait for seasons to change and reports to be written and approved up the chain)
Jun 2027 - RFP (assuming no single vendor scenario)
Jun 2028 - Commerical negotiations and Order (usual 36-48 months for delivery)
Jun 2029 - minimum one year for first rollout from factory (IA will do another round of trial for production variant)
Jun 2030 - First induction.

Govt employees always give statements to create the buzz during PR events and to impress their MoD bosses, it's routine. just because they give statements doesn't mean, things will go exactly like they say.

Yeah but this case is emergency. They don't have anything against china. This might lead to fast induction. Just an assumption thou

@Satish Sharma Ji The attachment that you added in post - are these specifications or more of requirements?

I hope adding add on armor is supported.

You want armor, weight will go up. IA originally wanted something like 500-600RHA equivalent frontally under 30 tons. Which is impossible. Tank has provisions for modular armor, and ERA will be used as needed, if the terrain allows for it. If you want the Booker's armor, weight will shoot upto 40 tonnes. Optics, jammers/dazzlers and APS are the Zorawar's best defense right now.
