Zorawar Light Tank

Found something very interesting.

At first, I thought that IRDE had supplied both the gunner's main sight and commander's panoramic sight. But I was wrong.

Both the sights are Paseo from Safran. I think they come as standard fit with the Cockerill 3105 turret.

This is a top of the line EO suite with impressive specs.

Paseo can field 6 sensors. A HD thermal imager in the 3-5 micron ie MWIR is standard fit along with a full HD daylight camera, an eye safe LRF and a gyrometer. SWIR sensor is optional.

What does this mean for Make in India initiative, for Indian rnd and how dependent will India be on foreign OEMs for manufacturing and maintaining them? What will this translate to supply chain depeencies/disruptions? Is there a plan to replace foreign parts with Indian owned and designed parts?

the ballistic protection of the turrent are basically shit according to the official brochure do anyone have other info or sources

Short for Standardization Agreement, STANAG 4569 refers to the standards for the “Protection Levels for Occupants of Logistic and Light Armored Vehicles.” Covering strikes from artillery, kinetic energy, and IEDs, a.k.a. improvised explosive device blasts, it is a NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization)
Sounds decent to me but I don’t know much about tank turrets, turrets are usually with lighter armour compared to the body no?

Maybe it will arrive latter on ,who knows
Yeah if baba kalyani is into development.
There is only one conclusion Indigenous gun with indigenous turret.
This program was quite fast turret could have took longer time as it was first time we are developing it
It could be like this to fulfill urgent need of 59 tanks for ladakh as we don't have anything right now.
In the mean time during production induction of this 59 tanks newer improved variant would be made on feedback of army when they will operate it in ladakh. with indigenous turret

In six months trial and then directly to the Ladakh. The Mk. II will probably have Indeginious Turret with greater improvement from lesson learned from Mk. 1.

To be honest tank doesn't look impressive by any means at least by design.
Hope they improve in next prototype

Indian Light Tank is a make 1 category project where GoI gives 90% funding for developing prototypes, at this point in time this project is not trying to answer all of "Make in India" questions, it is answering a very specific set of questions i.e can Indian industry develop a prototype within a short period of time. the answer is a resounding yes.

let it pass the high altitude tests, let the cockerill turret perform in high altitude (hot and cold conditions), we will have more clarity two years from now.

even if we assume, everything goes well in testing, user certification and RFP there after, induction is a good 5 years away. lots of things can happen between now and then in terms of domestic manufacturing capabilities.

My observation. There will be anti drone system addition as same kind of atgm canister can be fitted on left side which would posses anti drone systems. Jammers/maybe gps jammers too.
If this is put I dont think it will need cope cage. Cope cage are effective only against fpv drone protection of sights was primary use it doesn't penetrate the hull or turret.

Aps slots can be seen and it is said it will have 360% protection. Perhaps saving many tanks in combat. As no systems is invulnerable.
So less armour more mobility good aps protection this tank will be the best combo for army looks like
They're marvel comic requirements are getting fulfilled. If apc performs as expected it would be a beast tank.

Would love to see 2atgm/drones & anti drone system on both the sides on indigenous turret.
With indigenous sights. Already see through armour is provided by a indigenous source..
It being amphibious gives it an edge over Chinese counter part.

Chinese have moved to crew less turret.
We should move with the trend.
It will reduce weight.
Performance increase would be incremental
Additional armour can be put for protection
The turret size would reduce giving it more room for equipment

14.5 AP is all it'll stop. Car needs hardkill APS to survive, but hardkill APS won't guard against 30mil autocannons. Plus side, the car comes with impressive optics and it'll spot first and outrange IFVs or even the Type-15. IA is not expecting a Ukraine style dogfight ambush warfare in the Himalayas. Considering the weight limit, this is a damn good deal. The Type-15 weighs over 36 tons with it's ERA package.
