As I say again and again- India needs more specialists and not more generalists
PSO is a largely police function, let MPs carve out a specialist unit for this role. Ample decent trainers for this in India between SPG, NSG and CAPFs
I doubt Paras doing this job even get that much training in it- can they do defensive/offensive driving? It seems 90% of their brief is just to look swag
Golf club generals have been insulated from any critique for too long, all the ‘rang de basanti’ angst against netas is well earned but that’s a pretty narrow problem (mostly on the capital side) but tactics, ORBAT, employment etc are all in the hands of big brain wannabe English aristocrats in uniform
Saying this is down to the govt picking generals is nonsense- at most the govt has a say in service chief selection but even then not so much as previous appointments skipping seniority causing uproar have shown. Only really in CDS does the GoI get a say. The service HQs are otherwise staffed and policed internally
I’ve seen geniuses saying Paras deserve the PSO role for generals so their officers get a ‘cushy’ Delhi posting every now and then

My mind is just too fucked right now processing how things move in the army like 6/7 years back when I started following this SF stuff and learnt how easily the Meghdoot force came to life (relative to today) similarly 10's raising and 1's conversion + how quickly 9 came so close to become some SPG like force and also the new SF HQ and regiment which were later reversed . . .
Today it just seems impossible to change anything at any level
Fuck this shit
Because back then the army genrails were actually serious about who ran them. In 1965 war (when Meghdoot force was made), Major Gen Nirajan Prasad was sacked in one day for a failed operation in the BRB canal.
In july Indian forces killed 3 militants and lost 14 soldiers. Who was sacked for this failure? No one.
And then they wonder why Para gets hit hard in an operation. Peacetime tenures should have paras training to do cross LoC operations (i know strategic operations are too much to ask for in 2024).
Doubt it too- guys are given an ear piece on day one and told you are PSOs now is my best guess
It’s all fun and games until they have to actually take on a dynamic threat one day. Even if you’re a super slick combatant close protection in an urban setting is a very niche job and every top such unit in the world is made up of law enforcement and not military guys in this role

Ideally,The Military Police should've its own squad of elite bodyguards ,trained and equipped for such duties .But as far as our MPs are concerned, they are practically traffic wardens ( According to a Retd Col friend of mine ) .Unlike the rest of Developed world .Indian Army's Military Police don't even have any capacity or training to conduct In house Criminal Investigation,Any serious criminal cases is handed over to Local Police / CID/ CBI ..
They only deal with open and shut cases like Suicide .
Can't say about Air Force or Navy Police

U can use whatever vocabulary u want
Entire squad was wiped out except officer if I recollect rightly
And what kind of complex is this "how can para sf be killed by pakis"
There is no such thing as superiority in military everyone is vulnerable and have their own shortfalls
False. You are painting a picture that did not happen. The terrorists set off a bomb that killed 2 people and injured others. 3 died later at the hospital sustaining injuries. The terrorists fled. They did not hold territory at the end of the day. IA came and secured the spot. There were at least a reinforced platoon/company strength which means at least around 100 men. That is not wiping out an entire team.
Heavily-armed militants attack an army base in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing at least 17 soldiers in an attack officials appear to be blaming on Pakistan.
Five years ago, a Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorist rammed an explosives-laden car into a convoy of the CRPF. The incident led to a surgical strike in Pakistan by the Indian Air Force. Here's what happened.
The attack on the Pathankot air force base, which started before dawn Saturday, left seven Indian troops and four gunmen dead.

In a serious country these would all be scandals of the highest order
Let’s just ignore the fact that this is decades into this conflict and they are still exploiting the most basic of SOP breaches
Ahh that’s right, not a wipeout just a few more guys in boxes? Cause one guy had a heartbeat at the end of it it’s all good and another job well done.
What was Kandi? EDI? Kupwara? These are just off the top of my head. I can’t think of another ‘SF’ in the last 50 years that has seen such a high % of their insertions obliterated as Indian ‘SF’
If you really want to open this can of worms- the K/D ratio is always so abysmal when Indian units are involved. A handful of goat herders are able to evade and hit at will- 26/11, Pathankot, PAFF etc etc and then we are forced on these sites to sit around and defend them, to argue the minutia of why it was actually a tactical victory despite all the losses and time taken. Special forces are meant to be just that- superior in training, tactics, equipment and why? So they can disproportionately inflict harm on the enemy. A 1:1 kill ratio (at best) is not something to be proud of
Oh but these are all reactionary ops you’ll say, everyone else is hitting the enemy in their beds. Is this really an excuse? SF throwing themselves at every CASO and QRF mission going just further highlights my point that India has no SOFs because it has no strategic employment mindset.
Those attacks occurred against regular IA forces and some of the attacks involved IEDs. You made it sound that the SF teams were wiped out during gunfights, not IED attacks or attacks on regular IA forces or security forces. That's a huge difference. Your post painted a highly misleading mischaracterization of the casualties that Indian SF sustained.
