At this point the politicians don’t have a choice- they are sat on a house of cards, they cannot afford a IPKF scale debacle where India is shown as all bark and no bite.

For a long time I pondered why with all these heavy stats and conventional heft India was so passive to even its (strength wise) inferiors but when you realise the answer it all makes sense

At least right now they can pretend to have some level of deterrence and dry powder, if they expose that the emperor has no clothes they have opened up Pandora’s box

I know buddy and i know of many more such ops but….

Laughable that India has NSG but won’t use them in ops where they need and instead overuse para sf.

Encounters that Assam Rifles did in 1992 are now being done by Para SF in 2024. What happens? I’ll tell you what:
>Para SF decays even more, loses valuable skills and knowledge and experience
>RR becomes unable to handle basic encounters on its own
>Indian army is unable to properly develop special forces.

This is the real Indian Modernization plan.

I mean that the structure that Indian leaders sit on is fragile and mostly for show

And who is to blame? The Indian leaders and their rotten system of appointing army generals, and leaving procurement to the MoD “Babus” who know nothing about modern warfare as evidenced by the fact they order jetpacks instead of any modern nightfigjting device.

Paras still come on rotation coz they were never supposed to be there.

It was inefficiency of Infantry that made them do these ops.

Cant say when this started but nowadays, RR and PARA are deployed together with RR forming and maintaining a cordon while a PARA squad engages targets inside it

But this deployment style itself has led to weakening of RR units which then results in even less deployments (only cordon duty) as leaders are not confident if these boys can handle even a basic encounter

Golf club generals have been insulated from any critique for too long, all the ‘rang de basanti’ angst against netas is well earned but that’s a pretty narrow problem (mostly on the capital side) but tactics, ORBAT, employment etc are all in the hands of big brain wannabe English aristocrats in uniform

Saying this is down to the govt picking generals is nonsense- at most the govt has a say in service chief selection but even then not so much as previous appointments skipping seniority causing uproar have shown. Only really in CDS does the GoI get a say. The service HQs are otherwise staffed and policed internally

I’ve seen geniuses saying Paras deserve the PSO role for generals so their officers get a ‘cushy’ Delhi posting every now and then

Unlikely if you are referring to the new grps, their commanders and some of pak cadre and local experienced ones have been slaughtered and new infiltrations are almost impossible at this time of the year

I want to ask you one question..

Lets say we remove Para SF from PSO..Which other unit or regiment should take this role then?

PBGs are a different airborne unit all together.

Infantry doesnt have the aptitude..You know how my fathers bodyguard was picked..it was usually the tallest and fittest soldier..nothing else.

Now we cannot even do away from this system of PSO as you know in wars Lt Gen are a big target and are assets for any Army.

So who do you suggest should be picked?

My mind is just too fucked right now processing how things move in the army like 6/7 years back when I started following this SF stuff and learnt how easily the Meghdoot force came to life (relative to today) similarly 10's raising and 1's conversion + how quickly 9 came so close to become some SPG like force and also the new SF HQ and regiment which were later reversed . . .

Today it just seems impossible to change anything at any level
