Because they don’t self loathe. The narrative about their country is that it is developed. Their confession is tied to seeing the double standard between the narrative and their experiences. The confession makes them feel more grounded in reality and also empathize with the Indian perspective.

As you can see from these graphs, the minute you leave the city center the AQI is very normal in India. In California every year for 3-4 months the AQI is hazardous.

India is a beautiful country inhabited by filthy people (civic sense wise) who make up upto 50-75% of the population. So, Indians have turned a beautiful country like India into a filthy country.

Well, People need to differentiate between Motherland and it's Inhabitants. Could cause misunderstandings, everytime someone or I cuss India- it doesn't refer to the Greater Metaphysical Construct of Nation but rather majority of it's inhabitants.
