Electronics and Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry

It is stupidity to have semiconductor fab or testing facility in Bengal. It is a border state, highly unstable with criminal goons running it's politics since last 50 years. Those criminal goons will not allow the fab to function. Stop having wild fantasies for heavens sake. Be reasonable.
Disagree.

Bangladeshi has no significance in running kolkata.
Premier Institution operate out of Bengal without any issue, FAB won't be any different.

Yeah when the real fun starts you can see for yourself what happens to institutions like GRSE & the very peaceful areas surrounding it . For perspective check what was the situation like during partition in those areas

Looks like the news of the plant being set up in Kolkata/WB was untrue.

Official release says Kolkata has got GlobalFoundries R&D centre, not fab.

Why does it all look like Smoke& Mirrors? Its looks like Carrot they dangle often to other countries but never leaves the hook.
Because it is like most of things agreed upon in DTTI. Good for making a vist look success but short on any benefits other than for US who can farm our beurocrats.

They should announce once construction begins. USA has invested very little in India compared to Vietnam or indonesia. Micron (with 70% indian funding), and first solar are the only big ones recently. Jabil and Corning are also there, but they are not a gamechanger

Better to have it there, gives a pretext for intervention

The investment pouring into those countries are nothing but sweatshops with minimal value addition. What we need are investments in high-tech, high-value industries, not more sweatshop operations. The narrative that "we'll focus on R&D once we're rich from sweatshop labor" is a trap – it's just an excuse to keep lagging behind.

Contrary to the popular narratives, most High Technology American Companies like Boeing sources parts from Indian vendors unlike Europoor Ma&gots who doesn't invest a dime in India. The future lies in high-technology sectors that drive real value, not in perpetuating low-skill, low-wage labor models. The focus should be on bringing in companies that invest in cutting-edge innovation, R&D, and high-value manufacturing.
