India at Olympics

We need some kind of r and d to bring down the cost of sports training as well. Some kind of model that let us decrease the overhead cost.

I thought shooting was a relatively economically in comparison.
A DRDO for sports science is what needed.

Losing after 7-0 lead. We need temperament trainer.
Axelsen got a British army guy as mental coach.
Axelsen is one of the all-time GOAT's of the sport.

Axelsen has this characteristic where he goes on to win a streak of points. It's not Sen choking, it's Axelsen raising his level.

There are times when Indian athletes choke under pressure. This match isn't one of those.

I'm sure that next time LA28 Indian athletes will perform the same. No luck.

They can get it if the coach and trainers are good more over accountability is there, you need BCCI type of association. In west sports is a massive industry like cricket. Here in India apart from cricket no one watches anything.

Hockey was one great sport, but you see the international associations are shrewd they brought in synthetic mat which suits the western athletes and Indians started losing in hockey too. So you need BCCI type of association to keep check on these changes

Sen lost here.

He is the best Badminton player India has produced so far. His temperament is his strength but a player taller than him will always have an an advantage.

This is where our selectors find it hard to make decisions. Watching American baseball and other sports in New Zealand and Australia the panel of selectors who are specialists in body types would have raised their doubts and created plan B around him. Americans would have not selected him at all.

Axelsen is much bigger than your usual badminton player but he moves well despite his size. Not being as big as him doesn't mean you're not cut out for the sport. A shorter Prannoy and Momota have beaten him.

Lakshya is 5 11 and Victor is 6 2
I doubt 3 inches make all the difference, Victor is the best player in badminton at the current moment so there is not much to be sad over. Besides 6 ft and above criteria will filter 90% of the sporting population

Rest mental toughness will be seen in the next match, let's see if Lakshya can still win after taking a loss.

Axelsen is 194 vs 180 cm Sen . That's about 6 inches.

Axelsen is freak of the nature. If you look at the past Lindan , Lee chongwei, Chen long etc were sub 180+-5guys.

LCW managed 15-13 record vs 15 cm taller Chen long, , although 7-9 in finals.

I expect people to miss the point.

These are very difficult calls for a reason for selectors. It is all about increasing the probabilities when the other side is expected to be at par or better.

With height, you not only add extra velocity to your shots but save a few microseconds with extended reach.

I have not watched the match but can guess he may have tried to play near the nets to over-extend him with backcourt play. This is when you become predictable.

To add more; In selection/coaching, there is a concept of cloning. Most of us learn by copying others. In India's case (almost for every sport) we do not have extended libraries to record the formula of success where generations of players have consistently won in a particular sport. So most of our coaches hit a plateau and become dependent on one out-of-the-blue hero like Sen who becomes an example. Foreign coaching and training are helping us in a few areas but it doesn't help the larger pool and the techniques one player learns get lost in translation or become obsolete within a few years.

Coming back to cloning; If a player is doing great you start creating his copies. In badminton the code to crack is temperament. Coaches work better when they have examples to show. Sen has done it. Now his clone should be with improved height. If you are too cold-hearted which we should be his copy should be ready in a year.

Or we will be stuck with him like Deepika Kumari who knows how to mow down locals but fizzles out in the Olympics.
