Indian Railways

Exterior design is very nice. Fit and finish is of a much higher quality than ICF.

But I don't like the interior design much. Instead of that glossy black finish on the wall, they could have gone with a lighter colour. That makes the cabin more airy and spacious.

Also, we need a new livery. Why are we using the same VB livery on the sleeper version?

Looks like Rail babus given tender for orange paint in a huge amount. Till orange paint finishes we are going to see orange color.

Time for Red and White as our UK bros showcased in their campaigns.

I feel darker colours are better. Any spots are easily visible on lighter ones and we know the maintenance of Indian railways. I feel the white colour berths will have to be changed in future.

Could it be that the colors used make it easier to clean and maintain especially with high traffic?

Nice roomy and cozy feel in these coaches. If the coaches came with window tinting glass shutters, it'd be ideal when the sunlight is too strong.

Sir can anybody please compare the production and maintenance cost of VB with other trains and fairs
And also presently Vande Bharat only reduce 1-1.5 hrs on a 9hrs journey and has 2x fair . So won't the decision of upgrading tracks first would be better to make full utilization of Cande Bharat's max speed and to decrease accidents

Each VB sleeper coach is pegged at 8-9 crores INR. A similarly outfitted EMU coach from France or Japan can go up to 11-12 crores. The whole trainset is 100 crores INR. As for speed, VB trains share network with freight still. Also much of the network needs to be re-laid and new high speed corridors for passenger expresses need to figured out. This will be take a decade plus to accomplish. Freight still has priority over most passenger trains. Elevated corridors take time and money. But the new shiny trains can start earning revenue right now.

One Rajdhani coach cost 2.75 crore
One VB coach cost around 6-7 crore ( price will come down in serial production.

One train of Rajdhani ( 20 coaches ) cost 75 crores meanwhile a VB ( 16 coaches) cost around 118 crores.

Engine alone for Rajdhani cost 18-20 crores.

Maintenance cost will be slightly higher for VB but more comfort, speed, longevity and maintenance friendly.

Need to see the headroom in Upper berth. I am 6.2" and I cannot sit in upper berth on an LHB Coach but can sit in ICF ones. Based on Pictures it looks like more like ICF design. But still need to check.

Also within a decade we need to redesign the trains also, Lol. Our average height going to reach 6ft.

perhaps a three sensor system, one in the front and two on each side of the engine, with sensors IR optical or mmw or both, which acts as early warning system, and also acts as a data recorder for suspicious movement along the tracks when train passes. and the ability to store data at a central location for a limited period of time for AI driven facial recognition and mapping. trains are always moving around, so scanning is near continuous, probability of zero clues when an incident happens reduces.

with high speed wireless routers available these days, data transfer can happen at every station, without manual intervention.

this will take care of stone pelters too.

does not solve the problem entirely, but a step forward.

Nothing stands on its own in isolation but in conjunction with other systems as a team, we can largely solve the problem 95% and armed with massive deterrence such as the threat of death penalty and huge financial punishments, we can avoid such incidents.

India has 68000 kms of tracks, how much resources would be required for constant manual armed surveillance!!!

linemen concept already exists, they constantly keep an eye on the tracks ,that's how many accidents are being prevented. and railways have their own police force as well.

IRPF is like newyork transit police, but mandated by central law dedicated to railways. if quantum of punishment was such a deterrence then there would be zero crimes happening under NYPD, but they still happen.

NYPD crime statistics for feb 2024.

on death penalty, the pattern these days is that you are dealing with people who believe that life is redundant, and are constantly looking forward for jannat. death penalty being executed is rare in India anyways.

China was able to put in over 1 million CCTVs and implement nationwide facial tracking system. It was not just on railroads but practically all over the place. What I am asking is much smaller in scale than what China pulled off.

keep hyping up china, you will be back here faster than you think.. :D
it's always amusing for me, to notice how much of a blindspot china is for people living in the west.

on a lighter note, start preparing yourself mentally to come back to India, you don't want to be around muricans when they get anxious about their existence. during last cold war things got nasty at civil society level. :D
