LCA TEJAS MK-I & MK-IA: News and Discussion

For the sake of Allah talla don't trust idrw
I don't trust any Indian press (it's rubbish for accuracy where military aircraft are concerned) and online is even worse but I am curious to know if the trainers are scheduled for delivery before Mk1A.

Mk1a is more important so already engines are limited they are using spare engines. So ig they might push down trainer as mk1a will boost combat capabilities..

I heard that we always had a few older Gen Electric F404-GE-F2J3 engines with HAL that was pre ordered for the prototypes.
What will happen to them? There was a proposal to use them for MK1A as an interim till the new Gen engines arrive. Its low thrust though. Dont know if its true.

Are these different F404 versions plug and play? If the F404-GE-F2J3 fits the Mk1A and there are a few available, why not put them all in the trainers? Lower thrust would not really matter much, would it?

I don't how many trainers under construction or delivered have -IN20 engines in them. Let me guess at 6. Those engines would keep Mk1A assembly going for quite a few months. The F404-GE-F2J3 engines in store and from Tejas prototypes would keep trainer assembly going for quite a few months. Result: more aircraft produced faster.

Of course, if it takes several months to decide to do it, the whole idea becomes pointless. That may already be the case - the time to make such a decision was before running out of -IN20 engines.

That's a one year delay already.

Bhai engine nahin, udee ga kaha se :bump2:

We are back to lobby era..... either su mki will ordered more or new jets will come.

Must be investigated who chutiaaa banda selected GE engine. May be its a plan to end our fighter program.
At the time of choosing F404 to power the development aircraft, it was a reasonable choice to me. Because Kaveri failed to materialise, Tejas had to carry on with it. I guess that engines for Mk1 were delivered as scheduled so what indications were there in 2021 that the engines for Mk1A would be late? I imagine that the effects of Covid-19 on the supply chain were not good for any engine builder. Supply chain disruption due to Russia invading Ukraine then followed.

Who knows what would have happened if EJ200 had been chosen instead of F404 (if it was suitable for Tejas). Would Eurojet have also been late in delivering?

Yes, its a global supply chain issue and european factories which are already at a smaller scale than american factories would have had more issues coping with such a shock in the supply chain of titanium.

<Redacted> don't even have the capacity to manufacture and deliver 200 engines on time, same with France.
It would not have made much of a difference but we could've gotten at least 2 to 3 engines per year till now and upto 10 engines once the supply chain issue was solved.

Burgericans on the other hand has declared unofficial sanction as we got 0 engines in two years
