LCA TEJAS MK-I & MK-IA: News and Discussion

If first Mk1A is going to be delivered with category B engine, why is it still delayed?

Least they can deliver it on time?
Why another delay ?

Just because it is made by HAL. It's as simple as that.

While I am no defender of HAL and its shortcomings, is France presently in a position to point fingers at others.
Rafale export orders are booming but Dassault manufactured only 13 new Rafale fighters in 2023.
Hardly commendable. How many years will it take to fulfill export orders at a production rate of 12/13 per year.
Does Dassault suffer from the same inefficiencies as HAL??.
I understand that the problems in Dassault are temporary but please increase production to 24 or even 36 per year before ridiculing HAL.

They delivered 13 Rafale in 2013, but some more were 99,9% manufactured in 2013. There are a shortage on some components, from external suppliers... Same problem for Airbus , who reduce its delivery program for 2024 last week !
As for now Dassault is not late on delivery as stand in inked contracts. So promises kept.
There is a ramp up of production, to reach 3 bird each month in the very next year.

"The company has been able to exceed a rate required for three jets per month at its structural parts plant in Seclin, “it’s harder in final assembly,” according to Trappier. The CEO said final assembly is like putting together a Lego kit, with one missing part meaning “you can’t get it right.”"

LCA mark 2 will not be flying with GE engine most probably, may be some prototypes will fly with GE engines. GTRE has achieved a break through in Kaveri development and they are optimistic these days.
Mk2 needs 100kN engine. I don't see how GTRE can improve from 80kn to 100kN without fresh design. And fresh design will take atleast 10 years without external help.

metallurgy and tweaks in current design.
is it possible to expand the perf in such proportion with the same air intake diameter ? (because if the diameter is different, it is another engine).

Big big doubt....

Sort of expected. GE will start supplying GE F414 engines by September'24 so HAL will use existing engines to test airframes before fitting them with production engines before delivery.

But delivery in first aircraft is not bcoz of engine issues
Blame for that lies on hal coz many certifications were not timely and also now they are finding issues in Israeli aesa radars
These things should have been done earlier

When you are creating an ecosystem for making fighter jets in bulk you will face teething issues which is normal.

F 35, F 16, Eurofighter, Rafale, etc you name it all have faced issues during initial production run.

Problem is with timing.

IAF dragged their feet for MRFA/MMRCA for 2 decades until reality hit them that they need to replace all Mig 21, Mig 23, Mig 27 by 2030 and the only aircraft that can do so is Tejas MK1A.

Mig 29 and Mirage 2000 needs to be replaced by mid 2030s by Tejas MK2.

AMCA needs to start coming into service around early - mid 2030s.

Navy requires TEDBF to come online around early 2030s.

Su 30 MKI needs a deep overhaul to last until 2040s.

Now India is running to revive Kaveri project as backup for GE F404 incase US shelves production.

India is a reactive not a proactive nation. That is why we are 'Vishwagoru'.

So basically no Tejas MK1a delivery in 2024. Just another lul year.

We should expect one or two Tejas MK1a by end of 2025.

Surprisingly UN Generals are not unhappy with GE but as usual unhappy with HAL only.

Gl0b0h0m0s Liberandu-sickulars and Brown Sipoy who always eager to blame anything which is Indian will remain Mum till 2026.

Dealing with American is like dealing with Warlord/Don/Gangster/God Father.

Nothing is going well in HAL

I lay the blame squarely on HAL. When GE was happy to give license contract to manufacture in house why did you not take it up - and then why did you not buy engines in time and prevent the line from shutting down.

Ab karo mazze.
